Commentary | Nicolaes (Claes) Fonteijn was the son of the well-known physician Jan Fonteyn (of R 7647 of Montias2). On 7 January 1621, Niclaes Fonteijn, 19, assisted by his father Dr. Jan Fonteijn, was betrothed to Maritge Jans (Loen), assisted by her father Jan Hendricksz. (Loen) and her mother Maartje Jans (DTB 425/188). Nicolaes was trained as a physician but was also noted as an apothecary in 1637. The father and the two sons, Claes and Barent, were said to be lovers of poetry, but, according to Mattheus Tengnagel, none had the gift for it ( Oud Holland 1(1883), p. 216). Claes Fonteijn was a buyer at Orphan Chamber auction (R 19445 of Montias2). On Pieter Barent Hartochvelt, who was a close relative of Maritge Loen, see the text of INVNO 155 (R 71). | |
