Introduction	Inventaris van de meublen ende huysraet bevonden ten huyse van Jasper Quingets. Bruyningh notaris tot Amsterdam residerende, Actum den xiiii december 1617.
Commentary	The important merchant Jasper (or Gaspar) Quingetti, son of Christoffel Quinget, was born in Antwerp in 1561. In the 1580s, he and his four brothers became old enough to take over their late father's business. The oldest Nicholas, born in 1551, became merchant in Rouen. Christoffel de jonge and Melchior did business in Venice, Balthasar Quinget in Hamburg. Jasper first migrated to Middelburg in 1592 and finnaly settled in Amsterdam in 1596. The family was probably Roman Catholic. On 25 September 1594, Jasper was back in Antwerp to marry Elisabeth Becanus, daughter of dr. Jan Goropius Becanus. His first daughter was baptized in Antwerp a year later (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 75). In 1606, Gaspar Quinget, living in the Doelenstraet, bought lots for 4 f. 4 st. (GAA, 114/19 F 832). In 1606-1607, Jaspar Quinget freighted 136 ships, both for his own account and for the account of other persons (Gelderdorp, op.cit. p. 153). He was one of the largest investors in the first subscription for V.O.C.shares. He went bankrupt in 1619 (a fact that may explain the curatorship of his boedel in the present cited in the above INTRO) (ibid. p. 191). Jasper Quingetti was still alive in 1628 (Gelderblom, Prosopographic Data Base). As late as 17 July 1633, the curators of the estate of Jasper Quynnet asked the sworn broker Isaack Florianus, 63, to make a declaration of the prices of V.O.C. shares in 1617 (the year of the present inventory) (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). The betrothal of Carlo Hellemans with Catharina Jaspers Quingett, the daughter of Jasper Quingetti, was registered in the Town Hall on 4 October 1613. The bride was assisted by her father Jasper Quingett and her mother Elisabeth Becanus (DTB 667/98). After her death, he remarried with Margerit Gonsalves, the daughter of Gonsalvo (or Consalvo) Romiti, a well known merchant and art dealer (see R 27451 of Montias2).
