Commentary | Francois Poocq is likely to be identical with the individual named Francois Poeck, who was said to be a wijntapper (probably a wine distributor) after the death of his wife Martine Boutens (widow, earlier, of Willem Switterincx). She died in Antwerp on 20 December 1605 and had her inventory drawn up on 23 January 1606. She left seven children: Catharina (20 1/2), Maria (18 1/2), and Hans Switterincx (16 1/2), from her first marriage, and Margriet (15), Anna (12 1/2), Francois II (10), and Sibylla Poeck from the second (Duverger, Antwerpse inventarissen 1(1984), pp. 122-3). Francois Poeck (I?) was a witness of the inventory of Isaack Haeck (of R 21211), drawn up on 27 December 1617 (GAA, NA 381, film 6413). In December 1618, Francoijs Poock de jonge, bachelor, about to undertake a certain voyage, drew up his testament. He declared that he was the son of Francoijs Poock de oude (of the present inventory). He named as his universal heirs his full sisters Tanneken and Sebille Poecx. He also named his half sister Anna Poecx, wife of Francois Cuyper, to whom he bequeathed 25 f. (NA 381, fol. 544-5). He must have been about 23 years old when he passed his testament. |
