CommentaryOn 2 January 1621, Jan Jansz. Treefft, widower of Reijmerich Henrix, lumber dealer on the Amstel, was betrothed to Esther Aerts from Den Haag, 28, living in the St. Lucijensteech (DTB 668/373). Reymerich Henrix may be the mother of Aeltge Willems, from a previous marriage, who was betrothed to the bookbinder Jan Benninck on 20 September 1616 (see the NOTES to R 26500 of Montias2. If this identification is correct, Treeff and his wife may have been Roman Catholic. On 20 August 1627, Claes Hendrixsz. Elbe, as uncle, and Lysbeth Heyndrix, as the aunt of Tryntgen, 18, the daughter left by Reymerich Hendrix, who was the widow of Jan Jansz. Treeft, declared before the Orphan Chamber that Trintgen was entitled to 2000 f. for her inheritance (WK 5073/789). Treeft appeared as a buyer at a sale of lumber (in the estate of the lumber merchant Lubert Lochsen) on 15 December 1617 (WK 5073/954). He was probably a carpenter-builder. He is known to have built no. 165 Keisersgracht (E. van Houten, Grachten, p. 53).
