CommentaryOn 8 August 1592, Dirck Dierten, ships carpenter, 25 years old, assisted by his sister Griet Dierten, was betrothed to Gierte Claesdr. (DTB 665/53). The late Griet Dierten was the sister of Dirck Dierten, ship carpenter. Gerrit Claesz. Leyenaer, the guardian of the child, was a director of the Brabants compagnie founded in 1599. He invested 3600 f. in the first subscription to V.O.C. shares and had an account of 2 folios at the Wisselbank in 1615 (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 238). On the same day some goods left by [blank] were sold at request of Gerrit Claesz. Leyenaer. The only art objects were 1 schildery van de lotery van Leyden sold to Martyn for f 1: 3:-- and some bortges for f -: 9:-- sold for cash. The total proceeds were only 141 f. 13 st. 8 penn. Since the address given was op de Zeedijck as was the immediately following sale of Griete Dierten, it is possible that these goods had also belonged to her.
