IntroductionTen selven dage [12 aprilis 1607] syn ter ordonnencie van de heeren weesmeesteren vercoft de naervolgende goederen achtergelaten by Jacob Heer. Postscript: de suyvere penningen ... betaelt ... aen Heer Jacobsz.
CommentaryA kousemacker (hose-maker) named Jacques de Heer may be the owner of the goods sold in this sale. With his wife Jakemijn de Heer he had his daughter baptized in the O.K. on 18 May 1585 in the presence of Maeijken Hessels (DTB 1/257). He may have remarried after the death of Jakemijn, if the following baptism does not refer to another individual. On 2 March 1604, Jacques Heer and Hilletje Hendricx had their daughter Annetge baptized in the N.K. (DTB 39/32). The son of the owner, to whom the proceeds of the sale were remitted, was named Heer Jacobsz. Jacob Heer (or Hero), who invested in the painting and art-dealing business of Hendrick van Uylenburgh of R 24428, may have been the son of Heer Jacobsz. Uylenburgh acknowledged a debt to him (as well as to Rembrandt and a number of other individuals including some renowned painters) on 20 January 1640 (Strauss, Rembrandt Documents, p. 185). Jacob de Heer, who may be this same investor, was a wine dealer. He was betrothed, as widower of Aeltje Bogaerts, to Maria, the daughter of Nicolaes Ruts (1630-1711), on 20 June 1659 (DTB 480/54). After his death, she remarried with a plumber (loodgieter) named Gerrit Jansz. Hoefmans on 4 November 1672 (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 26(1939), p. 68 and DTB 498/261). It is improbable, on balance, that Jacob Heer and Jacob de Heer are identical. The location of the house of the owner, In't Hemelrijck, would be seem to be in the fifth wijk, on the N.Z., not far from the Coningsgracht (see Kohier, p.90).
