Commentary | Jacob Claesz. van Hoorn was a wine dealer in the Keysersgracht in Swol. He was the son of Claes Gerbrantsz. Schilt, tar dealer in the Teertuinen, and of Trijn Jansdr. van Hoorn. He married Weijntgen van Neck on 5 August 1607. Weijntje van Neck, the daughter of Jacob van Neck, tar dealer, bought lots in the Haarlem lottery of 1606, at which time she lived on the old fortification near the Roodenpoort (GAA, 75/2 F 590). In addition to the present inventory, a list of assets and possessions of Jacob Claesz. van Hoorn and Weyntge van Neck was taken on 19 December 1624. Grietgen van Neck (Weyntge's sister) was said to be the aunt of the children, and Dirck van Neck and Zeger Pietersz. goldsmith their neven (probably cousins). The household goods were not specified in this list inasmuch as they would be sold as soon as possible (als de selve eersten dachs zal vercoft werde ende 't gelde gemaeck) (WK 5073/968). A daughter of Jacob Claesz. and Weijntgen, named Lucretia van Hoorn, married the Remonstrant Mr. Johannes Wttenbogaert on 10 June 1642. Weijntgen's sister Margarieta (Grietge) was married to Jan Claesz. van Hoorn. He was said to be 53 years old in a deposition of 13 March 1619 (NA 200, film 111, Not. J.F. Bruyning). Another brother was Jacob Claesz. Codde (alias Kod) of INVNO 646 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 449). On 19 February 1625, Pieter Jansz. van Horen and Dirck Jochemsz. van Neck were named by the Orphan Chamber as guardians over the five children left by Jacob Claesz. and Weyntge van Neck. On 29 March 1627, Zeger Pietersz., goldsmith was named as an additional guardian (WK 5073/513, fol. 28vo.) On a procuration passed by Seger Pietersz., 56, and Dirck van Neck, 46, on behalf of the children of Jacob Claesz. van Hoorn, see the NOTES to R 32330. Jacob Claesz. and his family were Roman Catholic. Another woman named Weyntgen van Neck was the daughter of Jan Jansz. van Neck, cloth dealer, and of Gerritgen Jans. She was said to be 8 years old in an Orphan Chamber act of 2 December 1622 (WK 5089/789). | |
