Commentary | On 1 December 1607, Huijbrecht Hobbe, from Rotterdam, schrijver (bookkeeper on a ship), 32, living in Rotterdam, was betrothed to Griet Jans (Goutsbloem), from Gouda, 24, assisted by Jan Cornelisz. Goutsbloem, her father and [...] her mother (DTB 666/103). Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem, to whom the proceeds of the sale were to be paid, was the brother of Griet Jans. He was a merchant born about 1585 (NA 695A, film 4981, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 19 June 1625, Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem appeared before the Orphan Chamber as uncle and guardian of Gerrit, 16, and Claertgen, 12, the children of Grietgen Jans, whose late father was Huybrecht Hobbe, skipper (WK 5073/789). Claertgen Arents Hobbe (whose first name was identical with that of Huijbrecht Hobbe's daughter) was probably the sister of the late Huijbrecht Hobbe. She married Sijmen Sijmenss of INVNO 146 of 2 February 1629 (who may have been Roman Catholic). Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem, the brother of Griet Jans, was a buyer at the sale of Gerrit Jacobsz. Bruijn, who lived in the Goutsbloem. The sale occurred on 11 December 1624 (INVNO 658, R 26740). Note that, contrary to the announcement in the INTRO of this inventory, the auctioneer of the sale collected 5 percent (not 1 percent) of the proceeds as his salary. |
