Commentary | Pieter van der Voort was very probably the son of the painter Cornelis van der Voort and of his first wife Truytie Willems. He lived in the Brestraet bij 't Lazarus of Leprozenhuis in the house of Rochus Witsen. His death inventory was taken on 29 December 1624. From the subjects of unfinished paintings, we can infer that he painted portraits and still lifes (N. de Roever, Drie Amsterdamsche schilders, Oud Holland 3(1885), pp. 204-207). He should not be confused with Pieter Pietersz. van der Voort, cammenmacker, the brother of Cornelis van der Voort, born c. 1556, who married Susanna Vinckboons before 1603 (Briels, Vlaamse schilders, p. 400). |
