Commentary | Hester de Wary has not been identified. If her name, as seems likely, was de Wery, she was probably related to Daniel (de) Wery of R 29386 of Montias2. The custodian of her estate, Daniel du Gardijn, was a witness at the baptism of Nicolaas, son of the painter Nicolaas Elias (Pickenoy) on 2 February 1633 (Oud Holland, 3(1885), p. 142). He was a merchant-investor in the Buitenvelderste polder (see the NOTES to R 26643 of Montias2). He was a regent of the Waalsweeshuis in 1637. He married Marguerite Balestel in 1597 and Marie Reynst in 1626 (Jaarboek C.B.G. 19(1965), p. 164). The other custodian, Daniel Sohier, at whose request the inventory was drawn up, was related to Nicolaas Sohier of INVNO 232. He was a merchant, first noted in Amsterdam in 1620 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden p. 314). | |
