CommentaryThe owner of the goods sold may be the candlemaker or fats collector Cornelis Bartholomeusz. who signed a petition along with 28 others men and women working in the trade on 18 July 1618 (NA 377, fol. 278, film 6409). He may also be the individual named Cornelis Bartelsz. who was godfather of Machtelt, daughter of Adam Reijger of R 20841 of Montias2, when she was baptized on 12 April 1594. Either may be identical with the surgeon Mr. Cornelis Bartelsz., who was said to be 40 years old, when he appeared in a deposition with Geraert Verstegen, 40, and declared at the request of Hans van der Bruggen that the latter was free of the plague (NA 381, film 6413, notaries Jacob and Nicolaes Jacobsz.).
