Introduction	Op den eersten april 1621 zijn vercocht de naegelate goederen van Jan Claesz. Crock in sijn leven goutsmith.
Commentary	The only goldsmith by the name of Jan Claesz. that could be identified is the individual in R 21352 of Montias2. His last name was Kroeck or Croock. The present estate sale is surprisingly meager: it contains none of the expensive paintings that Jan Claesz. goutsmit had bought at auction earlier. On 14 April 1585, Jan Claesz., goutsmit, and Eechgen Everts had their daughter baptized in the O.K. (DTB 1/204). The goldsmith Jan Claesz. living on the South side of the Kerckhoff, paid a tax of 3 f. in 1585 (Van Dillen, Amsterdam, p. 45). Jan Claesz. Croock was one of the headmen of the goldsmiths' guild in 1602 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P., 69(1929), p. 607). He may also be identical with Jan Claesz. in't Wapen van Sutfen who invested 900 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 208). On two occasions in 1594, he delivered silver or gilded objects to the city (Oud Holland 24(1906), pp. 56-7).
