Commentary | Anthony Hagenoij was the son of Hendrick van Hagenoij, prosecuting attorney (procureur), in Leiden, married to Catharina van Heusden, who was assassinated in the street on the night of 1 February 1593. The assassination was witnessed by Cornelis Willemsz. Zuytbroeck, who was Rembrandt's uncle. Anthonij, who became an attorney and, for a short time, a notary in Amsterdam, had a sister named Ann (Nederlandsche Leeuw 65(1948), col. 158). |
