CommentaryAmbrosius Laurensz., born in Antwerp, was a merchant and a cloth dyer. He was related to (perhaps the brother of) Pieter Laurensz. (Spiegel) of R 7612 of Montias2 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 306). He was married to Gerbrich Hendricx. He died before 17 September 1625 when his wife made an appearance before the Orphan Chamber (WK 5073/789, fol. 100). The expenses that were deducted from the net proceeds were remitted to Elisabeth Verplancken on behalf of the unnamed daughter of Ambrosius Laurens. The expenses of the sale were: 15 f. 15 st. for the auctioneer's salary; 8 st. for the table and for the announcement (omroepen); 17 f. 19 st. tot wiens versoeck (items that were bought, presumably, by the daughter of Ambrosius Laurensz.); and 16 st. for a copy of the sale. Laurens Verplancken, whose pre-nuptial contract with Hester Provoost follows, may have been the son or grandson of Ambrosius Laurensz. On 8 December 1643, Laurens Verplancken, accompanied by Jan Jansz. Wassenaer, his stepfather, Reynier Verplancken, his brother, Abraham Verplancken (cited in the NOTES to R 32330), Jan Reyniersz., Jasper Loduwycx van der Plasse (probably the brother of Cornelis Loduwycx van der Plasse of R 28224) and Melchior Barentsz. Veres, his uncles, signed a pre-nuptial contract with Hester Provoost, assisted by Jacques Provoost, Jacques de la Haije, and Jean le Gillon, her brothers-in-law (NA 988, act 42, Not. J. Bosch). On 22 January 1621, Melchior Barentsz. and Bartelemes Symonsz. were named as guardians over the children of the late Pieter Barentsz., house carpenter (WK 5073/513). Melchior Barentsz. Veres (Veris, Feris) was almost certainly related to the (amateur?) painter Barend Jansz. Veris, cited in the TEXT of 905 of Montias1.
