Commentary | The wine dealer Willem Selijns (I) was born on 9 December 1567. He witnessed the baptism of Angnieta, daughter of Wolphert Webber, on 15 June 1608 (R 34387 of Montias2). He married Maria van Dort (called Maritge Selijns in the INTRO to this inventory). He died on 10 October 1617 (Nederlandsche Leeuw 45(1927), col. 114). He was the brother of Jan Selijns I (who married Appolonia Sprenckhuysen), of Hendrick Selijns I who died in 1606 (the father of Jan Hendricksz, Selijns of R 34387 of Montias2), of Anna Selijns (who married Thomas van Daken), of Niesje Selijns (who married, first, Joost van Bogaert, on 2 February 1618, and, second, Hendrick Coeck), and of Stijntje Selijns (who married Jan Pietersz. Vlasboom) (Nederlandsche Leeuw, loc. cit.) He is not to be confused with his nephew Willem Selijns II (of INVNO 1197) who was the son of Jan Selijns I. Willem Selijns II married, first Susanna Rijckaert (on 12 May 1621) and, second, Susanna van Couwenbergh (INVNO 1197). It was apparently Jan Willemsz. Selijns, the son of Willem Selijns II of the present inventory, who married Angnieta, the daughter of Wolphert Webber (of R 20317 of Montias2), baptized in 1608 (see above) on 23 August 1630. Jan Willemsz. Selijns was at that time widower of Anne de Marez and was about 37 years old (born circa 1592). The house Muijsentooren on the O.Z. Ooster Voorburgwal was owned by the wine dealer Jan Willemsz. Calckoen (married to Aeltgen Temminck) in 1624 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 656). On Pieter Seulin's relation to Matthis van Ceulen, see the TEXT of R 81 of Montias1. More research is needed to clarify the family relation, if any, between Willem Seulijns and Pieter Seulin of INVNO 1306. | |
