Buyer FamilySwaentge [Gerrits ?]
Buyer NotesThe buyer may be Swaentge Gerrits, the wife of Lazarus Wateringh, whose jointly owned goods were sold on 8 November 1628 (INVNO 627). On Swaentge Gerrits and Lazarus Wateringh, see R 526. Swaentge(n) was probably an uitdraagster. She may also be Swaentgen Thijmons at whose request some goods (but no art) were sold on 13 October 1618 (WK 5073/955).

BuyerAngniet Wessels
Buyer FamilyWessels, Angniet
Buyer NotesThe buyer was almost certainly an uitdraagster (see R 27943). On 9 September 1596, Simon Hansz., sailmaker, 23 years old, was betrothed to Agniet Wessels, widow of Dirck Cornelisz. Both were illiterate (DTB 408/73). In the accounting for the estate of Jacob Pietersz. Hardingh submitted by Seger Pietersz. (both were brothers of Pieter Lastman) to the Orphan Chamber, a payment was recorded for 51 f. 6 st. made to Agniete Wessels for a half year boarding costs (costgeld) for Jacob, the son of the late Jacob Pietersz. The act of guardianship is dated 2 May 1625 (WK 5073/1192).

Buyer NotesThe buyer is definitely Lucas Jacobsz., mr. timmerman of the Admiralty, referred to earlier in the sale when he bought 1 groote spaense stoel for 12 f. 5 st. (He should not be confused with Lucas Jacobsz. (Rotgans), commissaris van de cleijne saecken, in 1631 of R 24924.) On 8 September 1626, Wouter Woutersz. (probably of R 31676) and Lucas Jacobsz., huystimmerman, as next relatives of Claesgen, 10, and Jannetgen, 8, the children left by Willempgen Wouters, whose father was Jan Claesz., cooper, appeared before the Orphan Chamber on their behalf (WK 5073/789).

BuyerLazarus
Buyer FamilyLazarus
Buyer NotesThe buyer is likely to be Lazarus Wateringh whose goods were sold, along with those of his wife Swaentge Gerrits, on November 8, 1628 (INVNO 627). Both are thought to have been uitdraagsters. On 21 April 1612, Zwaantje Gerrits, widow of Jan Abels (3 years), was betrothed to Lazar Watring, from Metz, passementwercker (lace worker), 30 years old (DTB 416/150). On 24 November 1627, Swaentge Gerrits, assisted by her chosen guardian Gerrit Jacobsz. Haringh, presented her four children before the Orphan Chamber, whose late father was Lazarus Watring, oudcleercoper (dealer in second-hand clothing) and declared that the children were entitled to 1500 f. for their father's inheritance (WK 5073/789). The identification of Lazarus with Lazarus Wateringh is strengthened by the fact that the purchases by Lazarus cease on 16 June 1627, shortly before Swaentge Gerrits reported to the Orphan Chamber that her husband was deceased. Note that goods were sold by the Orphan Chamber at the request of Lazarus on 5 February 1619 (Hilde van Wijngaarden, notes to Scriptie). Another, less likely possibility, suggested, in addition to the above, by I. van Eeghen, is that he was Abraham Hendricksz. int Lazarus huis of R 20254 (Maandblad Amstelodamum 56(1969), p. 108).

BuyerVlasvath
Buyer FamilyVlasvath
Buyer NotesThe buyer is very likely to be Pieter Jansz. Vlasvath, who was referred to only with his last name in the Rapiamus (the account book of the city of Amsterdam) (Oud Holland, 2(1884), p. 55). He was said to be a houttuynman when he was betrothed to Nelleke Ariaens in 1609, at which time he was 26 years old. He was assisted by Pieter Egbertsz. Vinck, his nole (DTB 414/232). Pieter Egbertsz. Vinck (1568-1637), lumber dealer on the Nieuwendijck, was appointed to the Raad of Amsterdam by Prince Maurits on 3 November 1618 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 319). He was surely sympathetic to the Counter-Remonstrants. On 6 December 1622, Vlasvath became substytut schout. He was said to be 41 years old in a document dated 5 March 1624, thus confirming the betrothal act cited above (Van Dillen, Documenten betreffende de politieke en kerkerlijke twisten te Amsterdam in Bijdragen en mededeelingen van het Historisch Genootschap Utrecht 59(1938), p. 225). Pieter Jansz. Vlasvath, substituijt, paid a tax of 75 f. in 1631, living on the East side of the Keysersgracht (Kohier, fol. 303, p. 69). Together with his nole Pieter Egbertsz. Vinck of R 28167 and Gerrit Dircxsz. Muysenest of R 33259, he freighted three ships in 1608 and another three ships between 1609 and 1616 (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P. 184(1983), pp. 479 and 481; 185(1983), p. 631). On 3 November 1639 d'officier Pieter Jansz. Vlasvat, along with Immetje Vlasvat and the officier Claes Buyl, were all witnesses at the baptism of Roemer, the son of Willem van Buyl and Catryna Vlasvat (Oud Holland 3(1885), p. 168). Claes Buyl, brewer in de Duyf with Arent Buyl, married Geertruyd Roemers Visscher, the daughter of the writer Roemer Visscher, on 14 June 1609 (Marten Jan Bok, Genealogie Van Campen, typsescript). It was apparently Pieter Jansz.'s brother Jan Jansz. Vlasvat who went bankrupt and whose inventory was taken on 30 March 1651 (DBK 5072/356).

BuyerGraefflandt
Buyer FamilyGraefflandt (Graflant), (Cornelis) (van den)
Buyer NotesThe buyer may be Cornelis Cornelisz. Graefflandt who paid a tax of 300 f., living in the Spaerpothsteech (Kohier, fol. 268vo, p. 61). This identification is likely, given that Cornelis Cornelisz. Graeflandt was the guardian of Pieter Pietersz. Out, the son of Gerrit Pietersz Out and of Brechge (Jans) van Hoorn (see below), the sister of Barent Jansz. van Hoorn of this inventory (WK 5073/513, 7 March 1625). On 10 October 1625, he was named guardian, along with Jan Tonisz., apothecary, as co-guardian, over the children of Elbert Symonsz. Pool (of INVNO 644) (WK 5073/513, fol. 35). Graefflandt or Gravelant was born in Rotterdam on 6 September 1580 and died in Alkmaar on 30 October 1643. He was at first kistenmacker (boxmaker) in Rotterdam. When he established himself in Amsterdam he became an ironmonger on the Kalverstraet. He delivered all sorts of iron ware to the Admiralty in 1619 for war ships. He was a deacon of the Ned. Geref. Kerck in 1625 and an elder in 1638. He married Sara Gerritsdr. van Tricht on 1 April 1604 (formerly married to Lieven Bouwens, ironmonger in the Calverstraet) and, on 28 August 1616, Brechge Jans van Hoorn (1592-1645), formerly married to Pieter Gerritsz. Out. She was the daughter of Jan Jansz. van Hoorn (de oude) of R 27381 (Elias, Vroedschap, pp. 527-8). Brechge Jans van Hoorn was related to Brechge Claes van Hoorn of R 25500. On 16 July 1617, Cornelis Cornelisz. Graflandt and Brechtje van Hoorn had their daughter baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Jan van Hoorn fabryck[meester] (of R 27381) and Pieter Pietersz. (DTB 5/221). On 23 February 1627, he was cited as a deacon of the Reformed Religion (NA 661, fol.81-81vo, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 8 December 1637, Mr. Jacob Jansz., surgeon, widower of Brechtge Gerrits, appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared that he had brought 1,850 f. to the Chamber on behalf of the children of Cornelis Cornelisz. Graflandt. The children were entitled to various legacies from Egbert Jansz. van Horen, Jan Jansz. van Horen (de jonge) and Barent Jansz. van Horen, the late husband of Pietertge Pieters of this inventory (WK 5073/789).

BuyerPieter Dommer apoteecker
Buyer FamilyDommer, Pieter (Jansz.)
Buyer NotesOn 13 January 1624, Pieter Jansz. Dommer, living in the N.Z. Houttuynen, was betrothed to Catherina Beresteyn, living in Enckhuysen (DTB 763/121). Judging by the next document, he must have been 26 years old at the time of his marriage. On 17 February 1634, Pieter van Teijlingen, apothecary, 36, and d'eersame Pieter Jansz. Dommer, drogist, 34, made a deposition concerning the quality of Venetian turpentine at the request of Willem Haseldijn, English merchant, of R 20016 (NA 694B, Not. J. Warnaerts). He must not be confused with his contemporary and namesake Pieter Ysbrantsz. Dommer, who sold spices. On 8 November 1625, Pieter Ysbrantsz. Dommer, cruydenier, from Amsterdam, 25, assisted by Jan Isbrantsz. Dommer, was betrothed to Niesge Jans, from Amsterdam, 22, assisted by her sister Pietertge Jans, living on the Warmoesstraet (DTB 670/103). Pieter Jansz. Dommer, the presumed son of Jan Isbrantsz. Dommer, was then the nephew of Pieter Ysbrantsz. Dommer, who in turn was the son of IJsbrant Willemsz. When Heijndrick IJsbrantsz. Dommer, the brother of Jan IJsbrantsz. Dommer, signed a pre-nuptial contract with Elisabeth Willems van Bruegel, Herman van de Pol, member of the Raed and former schepen were present (NA 13, fol. 69vo, Not. Salomon Henrix, Extracten). It is not certain that the individual named Pieter Dommer who was buried on 18 August 1657 was our buyer (DTB 1055/97). Pieter van Teylingen, serving in the Company of Jan Willemsz. Bogaert, was a signatory to a petition to the States General complainging of the excessive influence of Remonstrants in the militia (Wagenaar, vol.1, p. 501).
