Buyer | Frans van Lieshoudt [crossed out: Cornelis Pietersz. in de Colcksteech] |
Buyer Family | Lieshoudt (Lieshout), Frans (Francois) van |
Buyer Notes | On 19 January 1622, Francois van Lieshout, from Wessanen, 26 years old, bookbinder, living on the Liesdel, was betrothed to Sara Vlamingh, from Amsterdam, 26, assisted by her father Zacharias Vlaminck (DTB 427/6). On 10 October 1627, Frans Lieshout and Sara Vlaming had their daughter Elisabeth baptized in the Wals Kerck in the presence of Hans Felbier, Marie Botij, and Marie Barents (DTB 130/235). Hans Felbier was a merchant from Antwerp who was first noted in Amsterdam in 1585 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 300). Hans Felbier, who invested 3,000 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares, belonged among the most prominent members of the Lutheran community (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 244). On 29 July 1631, Franchoijs Lieshout and Sara Flamen had their daughter Judith baptized in the Waalse Kerck in the presence of Isaac Ipensen and Maria Flamen (DTB 130/310). On 26 March 1634, the same couple had their daughter Sara baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Jores Lieshout from Heemstede (DTB 41/307). In 1631, Frans van Lieshout, living on the Dam, paid a tax of 5 f. (Kohier, fol. 264vo., p. 61). He was identified earlier in the sale as a book seller. On 3 November 1634, Davides Guilbertus and Mathijs Meijer(?) declared that Jacob Arichs had guaranteed a loan for 400 f. that they had obtained from Francois Lieshout. They ceded their library to Jacob Arichs in compensation (NA 843, fol. 752, Not. Hoogeboom). On 1 February 1636, Francois van Lieshout, book seller, and Jan de Clerck, sworn broker, declared at the request of Nicolaes Grij, that Frans van Lieshout had bought 110 reams of paper from the petitioner (Grij) in 1633 (NA 848, film 572, Not. Steyns). Jan de Clerck, sworn broker, was said to be 33 years old in a deposition dated 23 November 1632 (NA 604A, Not. Jan Warnaerts). He apparently was insolvent on 19 November 1649 when his inventory was taken by the DBK. It contained a landscape by W[ynand] Crul, an unidentified painter to whom landscapes were attributed in the Blaeuw and Schoonsteen inventories (DBK 5072/355). On 12 December 1637, Jan Marcus, 50 years old, Jacob Pietersen Wachter, 48, and Frans Lieshout, 42, all three book and paper sellers, declared at the request of Jan Selijns, merchant, that they had seen paper that was not of the requisite quality at the house of the producent (Jan Selijns) (NA 522, film 4861, Not. Westfrisius). In 1642, he was paid 428 f. 10 st. for delivering books to the city (Oud Holland 24(1906), p. 128). He was buried in the F.K. on 29 October 1646 (DTB 1130/14). |

Buyer | Jan Wijs |
Buyer Family | Wijs, Jan (Hans) |
Buyer Notes | Jan (Hans) Wijs (1602-1634) was the son of the sugar refiner Guilliam Wijs (1552-1611) and of Sara Berwijns (c. 1575-1617). He was the brother of Abraham Wijs (1603-1660), whose bankrupt inventory of 1 March 1658 contained a painting of Lucretia by Rembrandt (DBK 5072/366, fol. 46vo.) and of Isaack Wijs of R 21742. His sister Sara Wijs (1609-1670) married Francois van Os, the brother of Hendrick van Os of R 21382 in 1631 (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 80(1988), p. 42). He was the nephew of Hans Mercijs, who in turn was the uncle of the late Pieter Mercijs, the owner of the goods sold in this sale. Hans Mercijs died before 13 October 1605, when his widow, Maritge Jans Bultel, remarried with Simon Willemsz. van der Does of R 28462. She passed her testament on 21 April 1634 leaving various bequests to Claes, Hendrick, and Jan Florisz. and to Giertgen Floris, totaling 4,000 f. (NA 695A omslag 65). Wijs's mother was Sara Berwijns (1575-1617) of INVNO 1181. After the death of Guilliam Wijs in 1611, Sara Berwijns remarried with Pieter Mercijs on 20 August 1613. Earlier, on 4 February 1595, Hans Merchijs had sold his sugar-refining mill de Gulden Molen to Guillam Wijs. The Gulden Molen (Meulen) was still owned by Pieter Mercijs when Jan Wijs bought the present lot. Jan Wijs married Catharina de Marees in 1630 (S.A.C. Dudok van Heel in Jaarboek Amstelodamum 80(1988), pp. 39 and 42). After his death, Catharina de Marees remarried with Anthoni Verspreet of R 25596 on 18 January 1636 (DTB 444/99). On 25 February 1625, Jan Wijs also bought spices at the Pieter Mercijs sale. His surety was Hendrick Brouwer (WK 5073/957). Jan Wijs was a sugar refiner and a dealer in spices. He is easily confused with Jan de Wijs, son of Guillaume de Wijs and Willemtge Stenaerts, who passed her testament on 30 August 1638 (NA 866). |

Buyer | Maritge Florianus de weduwe van Pieter Mercijs |
Buyer Family | Florianus, Maritge [weduwe van Pieter Mercijs] |
Buyer Notes | On 27 April 1621, Pieter Mercijs, from Rotterdam, spices merchant, living op 't Water, was betrothed to Maria Florianus, 22, assisted by her father Isaaq Florianus (DTB 426/54). Isaack Florianus, born in Antwerp, was originally a dealer in hosiery (kousenverkoper) (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 300); he became a sworn broker (mackelaer) at least from 1617 on (Arch. Thys, no. 112A) to 23 October 1636 when he was 66 old (NA 695B, film 4981, Not. J. Warnaerts). Pieter Mercijs died about 1625 when the auction sale of his goods took place (INVNO 578). Maria Florianus remarried with Pieter van der Venne II, merchant, from Antwerp, on 31 October 1628 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 397). In 1631, Pieter van de Benne (Venne) and his wife, living op 't Water, paid a tax of 150 f. In addition, Marritje Florianus, wife of Pieter van de Benne, and her children paid a tax of 50 f. The brother and sister of Pieter van de Venne paid an additional 160 f. (Kohier, fol. 279vo, p. 64). |
