BuyerFranck Moijael
Buyer FamilyMoijael (Moijaelen), Franck
Buyer NotesFranck Moijaelen was living opde Waalekerck when he bought lots for 5 f. 8 st. in the Haarlem lottery. His wife Anneken Oostermans bought lots for the same sum. Janneken Oostermans, who was probably his sister-in-law again bought for the same sum. She said that she was young in years, indeed, 6 years old (GAA, 114/45 and 46 and 114/71). Franck and Anneken had actually just become married at the time of the collection for the Haarlem lottery. On 19 February 1606, Franck Moijalen, from Den Haag, 26, living in the Convoy, was betrothed to Anneken Oostermans, from Middelburgh, 23. Both were literate (DTB 411/677). On 20 March 1609, the couple had their daughter Janneken baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Marten Jansz. Hoefijser, the father of Pieter Martensz. Hoefijser of INVNO 433 and R 29669. Marten Jansz. Hoefijser, who also lived in the Convoy, was receiver general of the Admiralty from 1585 until his death in 1613 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 357). On 23 March 1610, the couple had their daughter Susanna baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Joncker Willem van Matenes (DTB 39/215). Willem van Matenes is the only Joncker cited in the data base. On 3 May 1612, the Admiralty of Amsterdam resolved to set up a clock in the tower of the church of the Prinsenhof so that every one can hear the clock and know the time of day. Joncker Willem van Matines and the advocaet fiscael of the admiralty (Heyndrick Storm of R 21283) were delegated to find out how much such a clock work might cost and to report same to the council (of the Admiralty) (Oud Holland 30(1912), p. 240). In 1631, Frans Moijael, living in the Buijtendijckstraet, paid a tax of 40 f. (Kohier, fol. 229, p. 52). On [...] February 1639, Pieter van Moijalen, one side, and Juffr. van Moijalen, spinster, assisted by her swager Jan Baptista van de Velde, on the other, were involved in a dispute over the will of the late Franck van Moijalen. To avoid a suit, as a brother and sister should, they had decided submit the case to arbitration. The names of the arbiters were not filled in (NA 1413 film 1381, Not. F. Bruyningh). On 14 October 1639, Pieter van Moijalen was said to be commis opt comtoir van de convoyen en licentien. This helps explain the connection with Marten Hoefijser, the father of Pieter Martensz. Hoefijser, who at one time headed the comtoir of convoys and licenses (a sort of custom office). On the same day, Pieter van Moijalen named the inkeeper Christopher Poock (NA 1624, Not. Gysbert Vliet). Christopher Poock was probably related to the wine tapper Franchoys Poocq (Poock) of INVNO 599.

BuyerTryn Roeloffs
Buyer FamilyRoeloffs, Tryn
Buyer NotesThe combination of names is not rare, and the buyer should be considered unidentified. One possibility is the following. Tryn Roelofs of INVNO 282 was married to Gerrit Jacobsz. Verwer. Both were portrayed in the inventory of Geertruijdt Delff, widow of Cornelis van Campen (R 49666 and R 49667 of Montias2. Less likely is the following: On 23 April 1622, Trijn Roeloffs, widow of Jan Cornelissen, living on the Keisersgracht, (2 1/2 years a widow), was betrothed to Hendrick Jannsen van Hamburch, pilot, widower of Neel Valcks, living in the Visscherstraet (DTB 427/103). On 25 June 1625, Tryn Roeloffs, assisted by Claes Claesz., cheese dealer, as the chosen guardian of her son Jan, 2 years old, whose late father was Hendrick Jansz. Lootsman, appeared before the Orphan Chamber (WK 5073/789). Another possibility: Trijn Roeloffs, married to a man named Hendrick Jansz., shoemaker, appeared as the parents of Jan on 4 July 1627 (Hendrick Jansz. Lootsman had died before 1625). The witnesses were Baertje and Jannetje Barents (DTB 6/177). The heirs of Tryn Roeloffs (which?) were taxed 25 f in 1631, at which time they lived on the Warmoestraet (Kohier, fol. 223v).

BuyerRemmen, Marij
Buyer FamilyRemmen, Marij
Buyer NotesMarij Remmen, 23 years old, was betrothed to Pauwels Jacobsz., 20, on 24 January 1624. She was accompanied by her godmother, Giertje Pieters, the owner of the goods sold (DTB 407/222). If this identification is correct Mary Remmen was only 15 or 16 years old when she bought her first lot on 6 July 1616 (R 27170). According to Hilde van Wijngaarden (notes to her Scriptie), she was an uijtdraegser.

BuyerGerrit Albertsz. Ruijl de man in huijs
Buyer FamilyRuijl, Gerrit Albertsz.
Buyer NotesThe buyer was the husband of Giertje Pieters, whose goods were auctioned off. On 26 December 1609, Gerrit Albertsz. Ruijl, widower of Anne Jans, was betrothed to Gertruyt van Paenderen Pieters, widow of Hans Matthijsz.. Both were literate (DTB 414/215). Hans Matthijsz. I of R 32516 was a book seller. On 17 January 1613, Lambert Gerritsz. Ruijl, painter, 25, living in the Nieuw Hoochstraet, assisted by his father Gerrit Albertsz. Ruijl, was betrothed to Teuntjen Kornelis de Goyer (Oud Holland 3(1885), p. 312). Gerrit Albertsz. Ruijl, a retail merchant of ironware (ijsercramer), was married to Gerbrich Hendricx. He may be identical with the buyer of R 26704. He died shortly before 10 March 1638, when his death inventory was taken. His movable goods were valued at 1648 f. (NA 714, fol. 228, film 5148). His two orphan children paid a tax of 15 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 316, p. 72).

BuyerCornelis Ariaensz. Styfe cas
Buyer FamilyStyfe cas, Cornelis Ariaensz.
Buyer NotesThe buyer was probably an uitdraager, as is suggested by Hilde van Wijngaarden (Notes appended to Scriptie). Van Wijngaarden also suggests he may have been a younger brother (of minor age) of the Griet Ariaens of R 31574 (one of the buyers at the post-mortem auction sale of her possessions had bought a lot voor Cornelis Ariaensz.)

BuyerJacob Albertsz. Couman int huijs
Buyer FamilyCouman, Jacob Albertsz.
Buyer NotesThe buyer, who was said to be or live in't huijs, may have been the brother of Gerrit Albertsz. Ruijl, the widower of Gierte Pieters, who was himself a buyer at the present auction (R 20815). On 19 July 1611, Jacob Albertsz. (Couman ?) lodged an insinuation against Vockert Coornhart (of R 7628) because he (Jacob Albertsz.) had bought certain flowers and tulips in accordance with the list that had been shown to him but the value of flowers delivered was only half (or at least some smaller value) of the amount that was to be delivered (NA 357B, fol. 203). On 26 September 1611, Abraham Casteleijn (of R 35076) demanded payment from Jacob Elbertsz. (Albertsz.) who had bought a tulip bulb from Volckert's father but claimed that the bulb was not what it was supposed to be (NA 341, fol. 155).
