BuyerDaniel Souterus clerken op 't Boshuijs
Buyer FamilySouterus (Souter), Daniel (II?) (de)
Buyer NotesIt is possible that the clerk in the Boshuijs (i.e. the V.O.C.), Daniel Souterus who was the buyer of this lot was the son of the individual of the same name, a preacher, who was in correspondence with Constantijn Huygens. It was apparently this Daniel de Souter I who was married to Petronella de Scheppere, the daughter of Louis de Scheppere and Anna van Coningsloo (NA 376, fol. 57, Notary N. Jacobs). On 3 September 1635, Daniel de Souter, 28, citizen of Amsterdam, declared at the request of Jan Dircksz. Deuchtes, equipage master of the Admiralty in Hoorn, that in June of July 1627 he had been in Livorno (Leghorn), sick in bed, when Egbert Jansz. had come to him with the book of accounts of Nicolaes de Gardijn (cited in R 8367). He had carried out the last order of Nicolaes de Gardijn (NA 1276, no fol., Not. P. Barcman). On 8 May 1637, Daniel de Zouter, from Haarlem, living in the Brestraet, whose mother was said to consent to the marriage of her son, was betrothed to Cristina Verborgh, from Uytrecht (DTB 446/187). On 14 December 1637, an inventory was made of the goods in the the house of Daniel de Souter, left by his parents and prepared for his brothers and sisters. He relinquished his share in the estate in consideration of his rights as creditor of the estate. The estate contained paintings that had belonged to his father, grandfather, grandmother, and granduncle (NA 795). On 5 January 1638, Daniel de Souter and Cristina Verborcht had their daughter Petronella baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Adam van Ommeren (DTB 42/62). On 29 January 1640, the same parents had their daughter Cornelja baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Dirck van Kouwenberch and Elisabeth Verborch (DTB 7/236).

BuyerJacques de la Mene
Buyer FamilyMene (Mijne, Meyne), Jacques de la (I)
Buyer NotesThe buyer is likely to be identical with Jaques de la Mijne, first noted in Amsterdam in 1615 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 319). He was one of the directors of the W.I.C. in 1634 (extracts from W.I.C. notulen in Rijksarchief). He is most probably identical with Jacques de la Mine who paid a tax of 100 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the West side of the Keysersgracht (Kohier, fol. 299vo, p. 68). On 10 June 1637, he signed a procuration issued by Pieter Spierinck Silvercroon that named Pieter Haen de jonge to collect money due to the government of Sweden (NA 415, film 6433). On 3 November 1632, Abraham Pelt (II), of R 29305, 60, and Jacques de la Meyne, 46, both merchants, together with Casper Boom, bookkeeper, made a deposition (NA 694B, Not. J. Warnaerts). He may have been the father of Jacques or Jacob de la Mijne or Mine II, an advocate in Amsterdam, who had studied law in Leyden in 1647. He was one of the men who requested that the inventory of Eva Ruardus (INVNO 352 of 12 March 1659) be drawn up (information provided by Wout Spies).

Buyerde predicant voorsz. [Plantius]
Buyer FamilyPlantius, (Petrus, predicant)
Buyer NotesThe buyer Petrus Plantius (de jonge) was a guardian of the children of IJsaack van Endhoven. He was a son of the famous predicant Petrus Plancius (de oude), who may possibly have been the buyer at R 39807. Pieter Plancius II was born in Brussels in 1585, preached in Diemen in 1610, Hasselt in 1613, Kampen 1619, and was noted in Amsterdam in 1620. He died in 1650 (F.A. van Lieburg, Repertorium van Nederlandse hervormde predikanten, Dordrecht, 1996, p. 193). He married Susanna van Hogendorp, born in Bremen, in 1591 (Nederlandsche Leeuw 75(1978), col. 378).

BuyerJan Adriaensz.
Buyer FamilyAdriaensz., Jan (Keyser)
Buyer NotesThe buyer, identified by the clerk when he bought a lot that was not a work of art, was Jan Adriaensz., brandywine dealer, living in the Keiserstraet. It is extremely probable that he is identical with the wine dealer, both by reason of his occupation (brandywine dealer) and of the street in which he lived, from which he probably took his name. On 16 February 1625, Jan Aerjansz. Keyser and his wife Anna Cornelis had their daughter Barbeltje baptized in the N.K. The witness was the engraver Cornelis van Dalen I (of INVNO 447) (Oud Holland 3(1885), p.137). On 17 July 1632, Jan Adriaensz. Keyser, as appointed curator over the estate of Harmen Dircx Outhuijs, named Cornelis de Hartog to collect money from Jan Willemsz. in Gottenburch (NA 371, fol. 96). On 11 July 1637, Jan Adriaensz. Keyser, wine dealer, acknowledged owing some money to Isaack (van) Hartsbeeck, the brother of Paulus van Hartsbeeck (of R 32142). Isaack van Hartsbeeck had bought a house from Keyser for 8,000 f. on the Voorburgwal (OZ ? NZ ?) Van Hartsbeeck, having been insinuated, promised to pay the capital sum of 8,000 f., but Keyser still owed him money for the kusting (brief) over 't huys (mortgage) (NA 844, film 570). On 26 June 1637, Meynert Pietersz. Emaus, 28, presently tax master of the wines, Cornelis Pietersz. Emaus, 34, and Gerrit Hendricksz. Kroot, auxiliaries (medestanders) for the afore-said tax, made a deposition concerning Jan Keyser, wine dealer (NA 1184, Not. J. de Vos, fol. 126vo.). On 13 April 1672, Anna Grenniers, widow of Jan Adriaensen Keyser, was a witness to the baptism of Catrina de Haes, the daughter of Matheus de Haes, the son of Aart Aartsz. de Haes of INVNO 175 (Nederlandsche Leeuw 35(1917), col. 141).
