BuyerPieter van Nes op den Princegracht by de Westerkerck naest de Rowaens vaerder
Buyer FamilyNes (Neschen), Pieter (Jansz.) van
Buyer NotesOn 22 October 1633, Pieter Jansz. van Nes, 25 years old, from Amsterdam, assisted by Marcellis Pietersz., his uncle, living on the N.Z. Achterburchwal, was betrothed to Leonora van Wolfraet, from Amsterdam, 18, assisted by her sister Jannetje van Wolfraet (DTB 441/271). Pieter Jansz. van Nes was the son of Jan Pietersz. van Esch (or Nes), who appeared before the Orphan Chamber on 2 November 1627 on behalf of the son of Nanningh Iskes (5073/789). Jan Pietersz. died before 21 August 1636, when Pieter Jansz. was said to be his heir (NA 1021, Not. S. van der Piet). Jan Jansz. van Nesch of INVNO 1305 was very probably his brother. Marcellis Pietersz., cited above, was the father of Catlijn Marcellis Pieters who married David Rutgers (of R 37186), born in Haarlem in 1601, on 12 July 1626 (Nederlandse Leeuw 84(1964), col. 291). He was the brother of Tobias Pietersz., the uncle of Jan Jansz., cited in the INTRO of INVNO 1305 and of Jan Pietersz. van Esch. On 3 October 1634, Marcellis searchsz. and Jannetje van Wolfraet had their son Johannes baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Maria van de Veene (DTB 41/338). On 18 September 1635, Jan van de Wouwer (of R 23231), living in Hamburg, but presently in Amsterdam, and Pieter Jansz. van Neschen (presumed to be identical with the buyer) signed an agreement whereby Pieter Jansz. would work in Hamburg for de Wouwer and would draw gold thread there (NA 412A, fol.194, Not. Jacob and Nicolaes Jacobsz.) Van Nes apparently came back to Amsterdam within a year or so when he attended the present sale. On 5 March 1636, Jan Pietersz. Nes (II) was said to have sold saltpeter to Pieter Janssen, maker of gun powder (his son ?) (NA 521, film 6505, Not. Westfrisius). On 5 October 1636, Pieter Jansz. van Nes, son and heir of Jan Pietersz. van Nes, accepted a compromise with Haye Lourisz., baker, concerning a matter outstanding with Jacob Hasbaert, Marten Looten (I?, portrayed by Rembrandt in 1632), Anthonij de Coninck (of R 23002), and David van de Kerck (NA 597, fol. 370, Not. Lamberti).

BuyerHendrick van Riet packer ofte de voocht
Buyer FamilyRiet(t), Hendrick van (I ?)
Buyer NotesHendrick van Riet, together with Francois Gyssels (II) (packer and painter) and Hans Wynants, were owners of a company of warehouse operators who were entrusted with the packagien of the W.I.C. Theirs was one of the five companies of packers in Amsterdam (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 1916.) Francois Gijsels II, cited above, seems to be identical with the individual of this name, said to be a signet engraver, who was said to be 25 years old and to be living on the Westermarckt, who was betrothed to Maria Venkel in 1664 (Pui) (Obreen, Archief 2(1879-1880), p.225). Hendrick van Riet was taxed 15 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the Keisersgracht (Kohier, fol. 96v., p. 23). He was, as the inscription for the buyer of this lot indicates, one of the guardians of the children of Hans Wynants. On 2 July 1635, Henrick van Riet, packer, guardian over the children of the late Hans Wynants, likewise packer during his life time, together with Joris Wynantsz., son of major age (of R 24931), gave a procuration to Sr. Johannes Lootsman, on his way to Moscovy, to collect goods owned by Hans Wynants and to sell them there (NA 412A, Not. Jacob and Nicolaes Jacobsz.) Johannes Lootsman, said to be 35 in a deposition of 17 May 1637, was one of the sworn proefmeesters of the Admiralty in that year (along with Pieter Mol and [...] Lubbertsz. (NA 952, Not. B. Baddel). The following entry may refer to Hendrick van Riet I or to his son Hendrick van Riet II. On 6 August 1641, Hendrick van Riet had his son Hendrick (II or III) baptized in the Lutheran Chuch (no mother's name cited) in the presence of Dr. van Wullen, in the place of Pier van Oijn, Hendrick van Wullen and Seijtjen van Riet (DTB 141/3). The wife of this Hendrick van Riet was probably named Van Wullen (or Wulten). Hendrick van Riet (I) was the father of Jacob van Riet of R 34447.

BuyerMr. Joris de soon
Buyer FamilyJoris, Mr., de soon (Mr. Joris Wynants)
Buyer NotesOn 8 June 1634, Joris Wynantsz., from Amsterdam, surgeon, 25, assisted by his father Hans Wynants, living in the Conincxstraet, was betrothed to Lysbeth Claas, from Amsterdam, 23,assisted by Stijntge Pieters, her aunt by marriage, no living parents, living as above (DTB 673/106). He apparently had a child baptized in the Lutheran Church two years before his marriage, on 17 October 1632. The child's name was Ceffia and the witnesses Hendrick Lodewycx and Sijtie van Rijtten (DTB 140/37). On 20 August 1634 (two months after his marriage), he had his daughter Cattalijn baptized in the L.K. in the presence of his father Hans Wynants, Jacob van Rijt (of R 34447, the son of Hans Wynants's partner Hendrick van Riet of R 24930), and Sytie van Rijt, and Margriet Selsaens (DTB 140/119). On 13 May 1635, he had his daughter Geertie baptized in the same church in the presence of Hendrick Verrijt (van Riet) and Geertien Jans (DTB 140/156). In a procuration of 2 July 1635, Henrick van Riet, packer, and Joris Wynants (he signs Mr. Joris Wynants) named Sr. Johannes Lootsman to represent them in Moscow to collect goods owned by Hans Wynants and sell them there (NA 412A, Not. Jacob and Nicolaes Jacobsz.) Mr. Joris Wynants was noted as a surgeon in a notarial acto of 19 December 1635 (NA 412B, fol. 432). Note that Hendrick van Riet, who was clearly close to both Hans Wynants and to his son Joris, bought the preceding lot.

BuyerSamuel van der Gaer op de Keysersgracht over de Grienb. packhuijs
Buyer FamilyGaer (Geer), Samuel van der
Buyer NotesOn 8 July 1620, Samuel vande Gier (signs), from Antwerp, 24 years old, living in the Liesdel, assisted by his father Gillis van de Geer, and his mother Janneken Eeckes, was betrothed to Swaentje Alberts, from Steenwijck, 21, assisted by her achtersuster (half sister from a second marriage) Vrancken Barents (DTB 414/331). On 7 July 1638, he remarried with Maijke Sennepaert, 38, assisted by her mitie (aunt?) Isabel Walraven (DTB 675/41). Isabel (or Isabeau) Walraven married Franchoys Schot in 1597 (R 23342). Samuel van der Gaer (or Geer) was a sydepacker (operated a warehouse for silk cloth) (see below) and a grain merchant, probably an importer (van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis vann het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), pp. 282-3). On 19 April 1611, Jacques van de Geer, replacing Abraham and Samuel van de Geer, together with Hans Berrewijns, gave a procuration to Anthonis de Flory, procuror before the Court of Holland, to empower him to condemn certain unnamed parties who had failed to deliver shares in the V.O.C. which had risen above 54 percent over par (Van Dillen in Economisch-Historisch Jaarboek 18(1930), p. 120). On 19 March 1625, Samuel van de Geer, merchant in Amsterdam, acting on behalf of three merchants from Elsinor, freighted a ship to Elsinor in the Sont (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P., 186(1983), p. 685.) He paid a tax of 30 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the Nieuwendijk (Kohier, fol. 42v. p. 11). Maijke Sennepaert, whose parents were said to be deceased at the time of her betrothal to Samuel van Geer, may be related to Jacques Sennepaert of R 27361. On 5 January 1629, Samuel de Geer, retail merchant in silk goods (zydecramer), appeared before the Orphan Chamber on behalf of his two children procreated by the late Swaentgen Alberts (WK 5073/789). On 24 October 1634, Samuel de Geer, merchant, 47, declared at the request of Pelgrom Bos, likewise merchant, that the producent of the deposition (Bos) had delivered 100 musquets to Denmark (NA 694B, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 23 April 1635, Samuel de Geer, merchant, 50(?) years old, declared that he had bought fat from Vlessingen (NA 695A, film 4981). In 1640, he signed a petition calling for an increase in the number of boats for unloading grain (korenlichters) (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis vann het bedrijfsleven 144(1974), p. 282-3). On 24 January 1636, Robbrecht Jansz., married to Mayken Abrahams van de Geer, both acknowledged receiving from the hands of Samuel van de Gere their inheritance from Frans Fransz., house carpenter, and also their share in the estate of their dead brother Gerrit van der Geer as also from Adriaen van de Geer, presently in the East Indies (NA 521, film 6505, Not. Westfrisius).

BuyerSamuel Koren op de Bloemsgracht
Buyer FamilyKoren (Cooren, Coorn), Samuel
Buyer NotesOn 28 February 1626, Samuel Gillisz. Coorn, from Rotterdam, dyer (verwer), 35, living on the corner of the Lelijcruijsstraet, was betrothed to Susanna Cornelis, from Ceulen, 30, assisted by her nephew Cornelis Roos (DTB 431/78). He was the younger brother of Charles Gillisz. Coorn (Coren, Koren) of R 27489. Cornelis Roos may be identical with the buyer of that name of R 31021. The couple seem to have baptized children before their marriage. On 17 May 1622, Samuel Coren and Susanna Cocquels had their son Samuel baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Anna Anselmes (DTB 40/169). Anne Anselme was the wife of the rich merchant Samuel Godijn (see the baptism of their child Marie on 14 October 1614, DTB 130/36). On 23 May 1623, Samuel Koren and Susanna Koren had their daughter Catelijn baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Catelijn Gout (DTB 40/212). Samuel Coorn paid a tax of 10 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the Bloemsgracht (as he did at the time of this sale). In a deposition of August 1617. Samuel Cooren, dyer, declared that David Buys had dyed some fabrics with vermillion in his house on the Bloemsgracht (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P.78(1933), p. 828.) After his death, in 1637, his goods were evaluated on 14-20 July 1637 (GAA, NA no. 714). They were then sold at auction on 11 September 1637 (INVNO 645, R 544 of Montias1). On 4 December 1637, Philips Vinson brought a bank note for 11,000 f. plus some obligations to the Orphan Chamber for the benefit of the children left by Samuel Coren, dyer, namely Catherine, 16, and Samuel, 6, whose mother was Susanna Cocquel, for their father's and mother's inheritance (WK 5073/789).

BuyerBroer Jansz.
Buyer FamilyJansz., Broer
Buyer NotesThe buyer was an important publisher and book seller, active in Amsterdam from 1603 to 1652. On 11 December 1599, Broer Jansz., lettersetter, 19 years old, living outside the Jan Roodepoort in the Nieustadt, assisted by his parents Jan Gillis and Aeltgen Broers, was betrothed to Aafje Jans, 20, assisted by her stepmother Meysje [...] (DTB 409/90). On 18 April 1611, David de Meyne promised to hold secret an invention that had been divulged to him by Broer Jansz. concerning the printing of plates (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 69(1929), p. 711). On 13 June 1613, Broer Jansz., printer, and Aefje Jans had their son Broer baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Jannetje Jakobs (DTB 5/65). On 23 December 1617, Broer Jansz., widower of Aefje Jans, was betrothed to Luijtje Claes (DTB 422/11). On 18 June 1621, Broer Jansz., book printer, presented his daughter Aeltgen, 1 year old, to the Orphan Chamber, whose late mother was named Lyntgen (Luijtje) Claes (WK 5073/789, fol. 176vo.) Finally, on 7 January 1622, Broer Jansz., widower of Luijtje Claes, living on the N.Z. Achterburchwal, was betrothed to Lysbeth Philips, from Beverwijck, 30 (DTB 422/11). On 18 September 1625, Willem Jansz., organist of the N.K., 43, and Philips Bournon, broker, 53 (cited in the NOTES to R 32474), declared that they had known Broer Jansz. for many years and that they were aware that, from his youth on, he had practiced music, including organ and carillon, with Mr. Jan Pietersz. (of R 27883), so that he was well experienced in this domain. They also declared that he and his wife were of good families, pious , and honest in trade and business, modest and moderate as befits good members of the Reformed Christian church (Oud Holland 3(1885), p.287). He was still living on the Ooster Achterburchwal when he paid a tax of 10 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 290, p. 66). Broer Jansz. signed the Remonstrant petition of 1628. On 15 December 1632, Jan Lourensz., innkeeper, living below the stock market (beurse), stated that the wife of Broer Jansz. had been living in the Provenhuijs in Monikkendam for the last 7 years. She apparently claimed that he (Laurens) had said that Broer Jansz. had filled an iron chest with [libels?), one claiming the Jan Engelen (probably of R 7620) was bankrupt and that Maycken Pieters was a drunk. Broer Jansz., he was said further to have declared, had kept doves and sicollen and printed a famous little ditty called a monk's dance. The appearer (Lourensz.) claimed he had never said such things (NA 910, film 1146, Not. Eyloff). Some time in early 1639. Broer Jansz., courantier (publisher of a newsletter), 59, made a deposition at the request of Jan de Bray who held a procuration from Jeremias de Pours from Middelburg. Pours was slated to get copies of a book (printed by Broer Jansz.) in lieu of payment (NA 1276, film 1353, Not. Barcman). On 21 January 1653, Lisbetie Philips, widow of Broer Jansz., printer during his life time, declared that, due to her advanced age (she was 61), she wished to withdraw from the printing activity of her late husband but wished nevertheless to hold on to the courant (newspaper), which would henceforth be printed by Jan Jacobsz. Bouman (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), pp. 595-6). Jan Jacobsz. Bouman was the son of the attorney Jacob Bouman and the brother of Gerrit Jacobsz. Bouman, who was married to Ermtgen Adriaens. Gerrit Jacobsz. Bouman left assets valued to 43,100 f. in 1622. His house in the Warmoesstraet was assessed at 12,000 f. (WK 5073/789, 15 March 1622).

BuyerClaes Bas
Buyer FamilyBas, Claes [Pietersz.]
Buyer NotesThe buyer, Claes Bas (1607-1636) (of INVNO 150) was a wine merchant.(Note that Claes Jacobsz. Bas, the other possible individual who bought this lot, who seems to have been Claes Pietersz. Bas's uncle, had died in 1632, five years before this auction took place). On 30 July 1630, Claas Bas Pietersz., from Amsterdam, 24 years old, assisted by his father Pieter Bas (I), was betrothed to Immetje Vincken, from Alkmaar, assisted by her sister Clara Vincken and her uncle Jacob Weijer (DTB 436/79). Claes's father Pieter Jacobsz. Bas was 25 years old when he married Maria Courten on 31 January 1591 (De Navorscher, 8(1858), p. 317). On 22 October 1622, Claes Bas and Jan Jansen Corver for themselves and in the place of Pieter Bas their brother freighted a ship to Dantzig (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P., 186(1983), pp. 202-3). Claes Bas signed the Remonstrant petition of 1628. In 1631, he paid a tax of 350 f., at which time he lived on the Meulenstraet (on or near the Singel or Heeregracht) (Kohier, fol. 59, p. 14). At his death in 1636, Claes Bas left assets valued at 100,000 f. (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 250.) Two inventories of the movable goods of Claes Bas have been preserved (INVNO 150 and 1500). The painting of Adam and Eve in the present lot occurs in both inventories. In INVNO 1500, it was assessed f 5: 5:-- and in INVNO 150, it sold at auction for f 6 (R 8330 and R 1538). On 31 May 1639, Mr. Frans Cock and Cornelis de Graef, commissaris van de kleyne sacken, appointed co-guardians of Jan, 8, Maria [left blank],and Pieter [left blank], the children left by Claes Bas, merchant, whose mother was Jannitgen Vinck, brought a number of obligations (the largest being for 15,527 f.) to the Orphan Chamber on behalf of the children. A number of jewels were also handed over, including 148 pearls valued at 185 f. (WK 5073/789, fol. 109.) Claes Pietersz. Bas was the brother of Dr. Pieter Bas who married Clara Vinck of Alkmaar (the sister of Immetje) on 13 February 1631 (Elias, op.cit. p.249). Pieter Bas's second wife, named Elisabeth Schimmelpenningh, was the daughter of Frederick Jacobsz. Schimmelpenningh, the father-in-law of Pieter de Koker de jonge of INVNO 1236.

Buyer FamilyWolphertssen (Olfertsz., Olphertsz.), Steven
Buyer NotesThe buyer was a butter merchant. On 10 June 1632, Steven Olphertsz., from Amsterdam, butter dealer, 28, living in the N.Z. Kerckhooff, was betrothed to Lysbeth Jans, from Amsterdam, 20, assisted her father Jan Gerritsz.(?) and her mother Grietie Gerrits. Both signed in a literate manner (DTB 672/125). On 22 July 1636, Jan Werlij, English merchant, declared at the request of Hendrick Osborn and Jan Wils that, together with Nicolaes and Cornelis, butter dealers, they had acted, on last Friday, on behalf of the producenten (Osborn and Wils) as arbiters concerning a dispute that had arisen over a certain quantity of Irish butter that the producenten had sold to Steven Olfertsz. The three good men had decided that 60 pounds vl. should be returned to Steven Olphertsz. and that the butter should remain in the cellar of the latter (NA 695A, omslag 73, fol. 445vo., Not. J. Warnaerts). On 26 April 1634, Steven Olphertsz. insinuated Cornelis Dircx Cool (the brother-in-law of the engraver Jan Muller of R 32337), who was handling the affairs of the late Staes Jacobsz., concerning a house apparently belonging to the heirs of Staes Jacobsz. that Olphertsz. had bought at public auction. Olphertsz. claimed, via the notary, that he now had half the purchase price in hand (NA 991, fol. 20, Not. J. Bosch). On 16 August 1636, Syvert Heckens, sworn broker, 28, and Bemmert Willemsz., butter dealer, 27, declared at the request of Ypen Ydesz. (an error for Ypen Ypesz. of R 22046?) declared that in the previous year, they had been in the inn of the Groen Beer and there had heard that the producent (Ypen Ydesz.) had sold Steven Olpherts. 35 little barrels of Irish butter at 8 f. per barrel. The sale had specified the fat content (speckichheyt) of the butter (NA 315, fol. 103). On 25 May 1638, Tamme Jacobsz. (the father of Jacob Tammesz. of R 20544), 63, Jacob Janssen ten Stappen, butter buyer, 24, Steven Olpherts, 32, Isaack Harsbeeck, 48, Barent Revertsz., 50, Cornelis Volckertsz., 42, all butter dealers, declared at the request of Boele Lambertsz, citizen of Groeningen, that the butter and fats and suet sent from Groeningen to Amsterdam, is stored in cellars and sold again without the interference of the tax farmers until it is resold (vrij op ende inde kelders geslagen wert, sonder de pachters ofte impostmeesters door ende aleer 't selve weder verkoft uijt geslagen (NA 521, Not. Westfrisius). On 10 June 1638, Abel Fransz. Buijten, factor, 58, Cornelis Volckertsz., nut dealer, 42, declared at the request of Daniel Pietersz. and Steven Olphertsz. that they well aware that the producenten, being in the inn Vrijger(?), had asked the broker Hendrick Barentsz. to give them a notarial act regarding a certain quantity of Irish butter thay they had bought from Willem Watsz. (Watson) on that very day. The English merchant William Watson is cited in the NOTES to R 29979. The sellers claimed that there were 320 little barrels of butter (tonnetgens), while they claimed there were only 303 (NA 1276, act 43, Not. Pieter Barcman). Steven Olfertsz. was buried in the O.K. on 17 September 1654 (DTB 1046/136).

BuyerJacob onder Colijn
Buyer FamilyJacob (Colijn ?)
Buyer NotesThe buyer may be the painter Jacob Colijn, the son of the painter David Colijn. He was said to be 52 years old in a declaration of 1666, made at the request of the art dealer Lourens Doucy of INVNO 285, where he asserted that a painting representing a sea shore by Porcellis, which was with Doucy, was only a copy which had been produced in the house of his father (David Colyn) (Briels, Vlaamse schilders, p. 314). He himself was a frequent copier of Schutterstucken. On 29 November 1656, Neeltje Pieters de Bruijn, the daughter of Pieter de Bruijn (cited in R 35688), declared that she had given her neve Jacob Colijns, painter, a procuration to collect money due to her in Nieuwer Amstel (Oud Holland 3(1885), p.79). On 23 February 1668, Jacob Colijn was paid 65 f. for painting five coats-of-arms (ibid.) Pieter de Bruijn (cited in R 35688) is known for his copies of Schutterstucken.

BuyerHercules Sanders schilder in de Kalverstraet
Buyer FamilySanders, Hercules
Buyer NotesHercules Sanders, born in 1606, was a portrait painter. On 9 March 1635, Hercules Sanders, 28 years old, declared at the request of Claes Jacobsz. Samson that he had lived at the house of the requirant which belonged to Jan de Engelsman. He declared that the cellar under the Voorhuis leaked. Pieter Nason, the future Hague painter, signed as a witness (NA 863, Not. Van Zwieten). This house was presumably the one Sanders lived in in 1635 located in the Kalverstraet. On 6 March 1636, Pieter Nason, still living in Amsterdam, acknowledged a debt of 425 f. to Claes Jacobsz. Samson, sworn city surveyor (gesworen stadts meter) (NA 949, Not. Baddel). Claes Jacobsz. Samson (or Sampson) was probably the son of Jacob Jansz. Samson who, together with Gerrit Jacobsz. Bellesier, was appointed guardian over Jacob Bellechier, whose late mother was Hillegont Jan Sampsonsdr. on 16 February 1624 (WK 5073/513, fol. 18vo.) Gerrit Jacobsz. Bellesier (Bellechier) was a wine dealer in de Wijnpars in 1619 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 78(1933), p. 341). On 8 June 1651, Hercules Sanders, painter, op't Uytersteveer in the Vergulde Clock, joined the Remonstrant Church, where he was slated to be baptized (S.A.C. Dudok van Heel, Bulletin van het Rijksmuseum 42(1994), p. 346.) In 1654, he was renting quarters and a studio from Otto van Cattenburgh in the Handboogstraet. On 2 May 1654, Dirck van Cattenborch, Otto's brother, consented to let Rembrandt deduct 800 f. which Dirck owed him from a promissory note that Dirck had drawn to the account of his brother Otto in favor of Nicolaes Duysendaelders (Strauss, Rembrandt Documents, pp. 311-2). Earlier, on 17 April 1653, the painter Adriaen van Eemont had bought the house for 7,200 f., of which 1,000 f. was to be paid in paintings of the same type ('forme van stucken' as he had been painting for Dirck van Cattenburch, each piece 4 1/2 spans wide and 4 spans high, and each piece being worth 20 f. On 24 February 1654, Adriaen van Eemont, living in Heusden, acknowledged a debt for money borrowed from Nicolaes Duysentdaelders (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 371). On 20 July 1664, Otto van Cattenburch, burgomaster of Vianen, sold a house on the Handboogstraet, which was contiguous on one side with the house of the painter Adriaen van Eemont or his widow (Bredius, Künstler-inventare p. 56 of the Nachträge). Dirck van Cattenburch signed a contract with Joan Billingam on 27 August 1665 to set up a glass-blowing factory utilizing a new process (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), pp. 729-731). A note found in Heemstede in the hand of Jan Mienze Molenaer, dated 25 April 1654, stated that he (?) had handed over to Bartolomeus Blyenbergh a large drawing by Rafel Urbyn, representing the Massacre of the Innocents, negotiated for 300 f. from Abaram de Koogen (Cooge), art dealer in Delft, a large panel in one piece bought from Dirck van Kattenburgh, wine dealer in Amsterdam, for 30 f., a panel in one piece bought from Jan Heerson, panel maker in Amsterdam, for 10 f., two carved frames, carved by Verhulst, for 36 f., and two children by Franssiskus Scavooy from the aepmaecker bought for 20 f. Jan Heerson may be Jan Jansz. Heere, cited in the NOTES to R 29118. Sanders was buried in the Karthuizenkerkhof on 19 March 1666, coming from the Anjelierstraet (Maandblad Amstelodamum 67(1980), p. 140). On Nicolaes Duysendaelders, see the inventory of his widow Catharina Lups (INVNO 162) and the TEXT of R 78 of Montias1. On 6 March 1677, the painter Barent Graet, 50, and Philip Storm, 38, declared at the request of Dirck van Cattenburch that Isaack Croonenburg had asserted in 1674 that he had bought drawings from Cattenburch for 225 f. In counterpart, he, Cronenburgh, would deliver a painting worth the same amount (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p.1328). Isaack Cronenburg may have been the brother of the auction master Abraham Cronenburgh (Croonenburgh).
