BuyerRedericus Veulerus borge de 2 voogden
Buyer FamilyVeulerus, Redericus
Buyer NotesThe two guardians of Egbert Bisschop's children were the sureties for the purchase. Veulerus was apparently a son of Aeltge Feuler with her second husband, the Englishman Johan Feuler (or Fowler). The Latinized first and last names of the buyer suggests that he may have been a predikant, but he is not listed among the known preachers of the Dutch Republic (information from Marten Jan Bok). On the dispute involving the settlement of the estate of Aeltge Feuler, in which Veulerus took part, see the TEXT of R 529 of Montias1. It is not clear from which branch of the Bisschop family this Egbert Bisschop was descended. He was not closely related to Egbert Bisschop who died in Amsterdam in 1602 (whose sons were Simon Episcopus, Rem Bisschop, and Jan Bisschop). He may have been a son or grandson of Egbert Bisschop of Kampen (the uncle of Egbert Remmertsz. Bisschop of Amsterdam).

BuyerEduwaert Bisschop voors.
Pre Lot HeaderDen 21e martij 1635
Buyer FamilyBisschop, Eduwaert
Buyer NotesOn 6 October 1590, Evert Bisschop, from Cleve, journeman dyer (verwersgeselle), 25 years old, assisted by Gillis de Ville, was betrothed to Sara Goverts (DTB 405/344). If this is the buyer, he was 70 years old in 1635. Eduart may, however, have been the son or the grandson of Evert Bisschop. Note that the dyer Gillis de Ville was the father of the painter Jacques de Ville (of R 36770). Evert Bisschop signed the betrothal document with an illiterate mark. He was probably a relative of the late Egbert Bisschop of the present inventory.
