BuyerMr. Hartman sirurgijn
Buyer FamilyHartman, sirurgijn (Jan ?)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was a surgeon. He may be identical with Mr. Hartman barbier, who paid a tax of 20 f. in 1631, living on the West side of the Nes (Kohier, fol. 234 vo., p. 54). He may be identical with Jan Hartman or with his brother Gerrit Hartman, who was also a surgeon. Jan Hartman, chirurgijn, seems to have been also the brother of Hendrick Hartman, schoolmaster, according to an Orphan Chamber document of 11 March 1620, concerning Mayken Symays, the daughter of Syntgen Symays, whose father is Hendrick Hartman. Hendrick Hartman, school master, who apparently remarried with Aeltge Gene (?), died before 15 May 1659 when his widow's inventory was taken (NA 2874, film 2903, fol. 1331). Abraham de Sadelaer (of R 21507) and Hans van der Putte were executors of the testament of Syntgen Symays (WK 5073/789). On Hans van der Putte, who was closely associated with Abraham de Sadelaer, see the NOTES to R 21507 and R 21404. Both Jan and Gerrit Hartman were portrayed in a portrait of the surgeons' guild by Claes Elias Pickenoy (Oud Holland 4(1886), p. 86). Gerrit Hartman married Brecht, the daughter of the engraver Claes Visscher (Oud Holland 4(1886), p. 222). On 27 June 1637, Mr. Jan Hartman, 50, Mr. Cornelis Kercke, 46, and Mr. Steven Vennecoel, 46 (of R 26587), all surgeons, made a declaration at the request of Mr. Jan Lambertsz., likewise surgeon, concerning a wound in a leg (NA 598, fol. 254, Not. Lamberti).
