He was author of a book on the V.O.C., published in 1644 without date or name of author. He was a director of the Amsterdam Schouwburg from 1644/45 to 1647 (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 72(1980), p. 42). BuyerCornelis Jansz. Valconier
Buyer FamilyValconier (Valckenier), Cornelis Jansz.
Buyer NotesCornelis Jansz. Valconier or Valckenier was the brother of Trijn Jans Valckenier, the wife of Jan Commelin, the owner of the goods sold. On 22 November 1591, Cornelis Jansz. Valkonier, 29, living on the O.Z. Voorburgwal, assisted by his father Jan Gelisz. Valkonier and by his brother Jelis Jansz. Valkonier was betrothed to Aefgen (Eva) Booms, 22 years old, assisted by Pieter Boom, bourgomaster, her father, and Griete Gerrits, her mother (DTB 406/101). Pieter Boom Cornelisz. was a member of the Raed of Amsterdam from 1582 to 1609 (the year of his death) and bourgomaster in various years from 1583 to 1606 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 131). Jelis Jansz. Valckenier was married to Claertgen Pauw, daughter of Adriaen Pauw. Cornelis Jansz. Valkonier was Commissaris in 1601, Kerkmeester of the Zuidekerck in 1617. He invested 3,000 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 170). In 1606, Trijntje Willems, living in the house of Cornelis Jansz. Valckenier, bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 1 f. 16 st. (GAA, 52/25 F 406). On 28 January 1615, Cornelis Jansz. Valckenier, commissaris of the Kamer van Assurantie in Amsterdam, and his wife Aeffgen Boemen, confirmed their testament of 15 December 1611. The survivor of the two would dispose of the real estate, including especially the two warehouses on the Boomensloot (NA 15, fol. 21, Not. S. Henrix, Extracten). On 26 May 1626, his neef Claas Andries Abeleven, predikant in Benthuizen, married Jannetge Jans, daughter of Jan Jansz. coeckebacker (De Navorscher 8(1858), p. 516). He was buried on 25 September 1626 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 411). On 4 November 1626, he was replaced as guardian over the children of the late Jacob Bicker by his son Dr. Jan Cornelisz. Valckenier (WK 5073/513, fol. 46). The widow of Cornelis Jansz. Valckenier, living on the Raemsloot, paid a tax of 320 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 217, p. 50). On 1 May 1632, Cornelis Claesz., grave-maker of the Zuijdkerck made a deposition at the request of the painter Pieter Lastman (of R 20157) concerning a conversation he had had eight years previously with the late Cornelis Jan Valckenier, at the time one of the Church Fathers of the Zuijdkerck, regarding the exact emplacement of certain alleys and exits of the cemetary bordering on Lastman's house (see the NOTES to R 20157). Valckenier was the uncle of Isack Commelijn of R 26515.

BuyerEgbert van Hooren [crossed out: Diewer Jans]
Buyer FamilyHooren, Egbert van
Buyer NotesThe inventory of Egbert van Hoorn (INVNO 519), consisting of goods he had transferred in precario to his brother-in-law, does not seem to have included this painting. On 21 October 1621, Egbert van Hooren, 22 years old, lumber dealer (houtcooper), living in the Rapenburgh, was betrothed to Machteltje Jaspers Lodder, 18. He was assisted by his father Jan van de Hooren and she by her father Jaspar Cornelis Lodders (DTB 426/229). Jasper Cornelisz. Lodder, beer distributor (bierbeschoijer), was married to Neeltgen Jans Veen. For his death inventory of 1624, see INVNO 485. After her husband's death, Machtelt Jaspers Lodder remarried with the painter and architect Daniel van Stalpaert (17 March 1645, R 26682). Egbert van Hooren paid a tax of 100 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the East side of the Keysersgracht (Kohier, fol. 91, p. 22). It is possible but improbable that the individual of that name who was buried in the W.K. on 14 December 1680 (DTB 1102/94) is identical with the buyer.
