BuyerNiclaes Waterlo
Buyer FamilyWaterlo, Niclaes
Buyer NotesOn 31 October 1598, Nicolas Waterlo, caffatier (weaver of caffa), living on the N.Z. Voorburgwal, was betrothed to Francoise de Chant, from Rijssel (DTB 762A/112). On 7 February 1604, Nicolaes Waterlo, from Ryssel, caffawercker, widower of Francoise de Can, was betrothed to Susanna Savatte, from Antwerp, assisted by her sister Marie Savatte, no living parents, living on the Rockin (DTB 411/150). Marie and Susanna Savatte were the daughters of Samuel Savaet, at whose request these goods were sold (and who was himself a buyer, at R 26634). On 28 March 1629, Marie Waterlo, assisted by Niclaes Waterlo, her father and guardian, appeared before the Orphan Chamber on behalf of her daughter Niesgen procreated by her late husband Claes Adriaensz. van Berghen, who was entitled to 500 f. for her share of her mother's inheritance. She was the voordochter (daughter from a previous marriage) of Claes Adriaensz. and Niesgen Jans (WK 5073/789). Niclaes Waterlo, caffawercker, invested 300 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 156). On 6 April 1629, an inventory was taken of the goods belonging to Maritje Sawaat, widow of Pieter Waterlo, at the request of the same Maritje Sawaat and of Susanna Waterloo, her daughter, married to Jan Beulerwijn (?), in the presence of Samuel Chavatte and Pieter Pietersz. Kretien, kooplieden (NA 713, film 5147). In 1631, Niclaes Waterloo was taxed 20 f. living on the Hoge Keiserstraet (Kohier, fol. 124 vo.). On 8 May 1638, Nicolaes Waterloo, living in the Verwerijen, no children, was buried. (8 f. were paid to the church) (DTB 1130/74).

BuyerSamuel Savaet
Buyer FamilySavaet (Chavatte), Samuel
Buyer NotesSamuel Chavatte, 30 years old, assisted by his mother Simontgen de Blanck (Planque), living bij de Borse, was betrothed to Maria Gillis (signs Gilles), assisted by her parents Bretsje Gillis and Jenne Adijn, living in the Cellebroersstraet, on 21 July 1616 (DTB 420/245). Bretsje or Brise Gilles, originally from Doornik, but who had lived some time in Antwerp before moving to Amsterdam, was a silk cloth merchant who invested 2,400 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 227). Samuel Savaet or Chavatte, at whose request the goods were sold, paid a tax of 30 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the Sant- and Bisschopstraet. (Kohier, fol. 220 vo.) On 15 May 1619, Samuel Chavatte and Marije Gilles had their son Mathijs baptized in the Waals Kerck in the presence of Brisge Gilles and Symone de Planque, widow of Mathys Chavate. Symone de Planque, who was probably Samuel Chavatte's mother, was called Simontge de Blanck at the time of his betrothal (DTB 130/86). The couple also had a son Samuel baptized on 25 November 1620 in the same church in the presence of Jean Gilles, Jean Plucque (Plancque ?), and Jenne Adijn (DTB 130/108). The merchant Jean Gilles was the son of Brise Gilles (Van Dillen, loc. cit.) Shortly before 23 October 1636, Samuel Chavatte and Marie Gillis passed their testament, leaving their goods to their legitimate sons Mattheus and Samuel Chavatte (NA 949, film 1172).
