BuyerJan Vogel de voocht
Buyer FamilyVogel, Jan (de)]
Buyer NotesOn 13 January 1624, Jan de Vogel, from Hooren, 24 years old, assisted by his father Cornelis de Vogel, living on the O.Z. Voorburgwal, was betrothed to Trijntje Daniels, 21, on 13 January 1624 (DTB 428/322). Cornelis de Vogel, the father of Jan de Vogel, was a sworn broker. He was 60 years old when, together with the painter Jacob van Nieulandt (of R 27731), 34, testified at the request of the painter Captain Michiel van de Sande that they had been in the house of Jacob van Nieulandt where Van de Sande and Jeronimius de Fever had negotiated over the purchase of a horse that belonged to De Fever. Van de Sande had been willing to give 410 f. to be paid in paintings that would be assessed according to the judgement of connoisseurs. De Fever said he wanted to give those paitings to Sr. Bisschop (which ?) and that he would give Van de Sande the canvases on which to paint the paintings. Jacob van Nieulant declared that the the canvases had never been delivered (Bredius, op.cit., p. 1488). Cornelis de Vogel was 67 years old when he made a deposition at the request of Gerrit Wesselingh regarding a dispute with Jan and Jacob Lucasz. on 4 August 1636 (NA 1276, film 1353, Not. Barcman). On 1 October 1623, Jan de Vogel and Cattarijne Daniels had their daughter Cornelija baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Nijcolaes Pauw (of R 23378) and Magdalena de Bleck (DTB 6/60). Jan de Vogel was a guardian of Kieft's child or children. In 1631, he paid a tax of 30 f., at which time he lived on the East side of the Brestraet below the Sluijs (Kohier, fol. 228 vo., p. 52). He bought spices at the sale of Pieter Mercijs, at which time his surety was Jacob Tammeszoon of R 20544 (INVNO 578). He may have dealt in spices himself (GAA, WK, 5073/957, 25 February 1625, supplement to the Mercijs sale). On 8 February 1637, Pieter Sterck, merchant in Amsterdam, as agent of Zacharias Lepij, bloemist in Enkhuyzen, lodged a notarial complaint against Jan de Vogel concerning payment for certain tulip bulbs (for 1530 f., 750 f., and 900 f.) Cornelis de Vogel (probably Jan's father) stood ready to pay if delivery was guaranteed (NA 544A, fol. 3, Not. Westfrisius, Extracten). Pieter (de) Sterck, who issued the complaint, was a spices merchant, born in Antwerp, first noted in Amsterdam in 1596 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 314). Jan de Vogel was buried in the N.K. on 23 November 1637, and 8 f. were paid on his behalf (DTB 1054/112vo). On 1 July 1638, Catharina Daniels, assisted by Daniel van Beuningen, her guardian, appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared that her six children, Cornelia, 13, Magdalentge, 12, Jan, 8, Maria, 5, Catharina, 4, and Daniel, 3, whose late father was Jan de Vogel were entitled to 9,000 f. on account of their father's inheritance (WK 5073/789). Maritje Jans de Vogel, who is probably identical with Maria de Vogel who was 5 years old in 1638, was married to Claes Claesz. Ansloo II, the son of Claes Claesz. Ansloo I of INVNO 1134 (Nederlandsche Leeuw 64(1947), col. 181)).

Tatick Jansz. Kaet was 57 years old when he made a deposition at the request of Pieter Gerritsz. Hooft, dated 14 March 1635, concerning some property, including a domain (hofstede) in the Beemster, that had been auctioned off (by Hooft) in the inn De schild van Vranckrijck (NA 695A, film 4981, fol. 67). His house on the Nieuwen Dijck, close to the Groene Draeck, was already cited in 1608 (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 53(1961). In 1624 Tating Jansz. Kat was a regent of the Aalmoezeniersweeshuis (Wagenaar, Amsterdam, vol. 2, pp. 299-300.) In 1627, he signed a petition on the collection of a levy on grain for the benefit of the poor, along with 26 other aalmoezeniers (provisioners for the poor) (Maandblad Amstelodamum 74(1987), p. 87). On 22 March 1634, Notary Lambert Lamberti, representing Willem van Galen of Utrecht, notified Michiel Pauw (of R 34143), Jan Visscher, and Cornelis Fas, and, on 25 March, Tatick Jansz. Cat that these four men had built on his (van Galen's) land without his permission (on the Buijtenveldersche Polder) (NA 595, fil. 516, Not. Lamberti). On 14 September 1634, Tatick Cat appeared in an agreement among the insurers of the ship De Evangelist St. Jan (which had apparently been lost) pursuant to a court decision (NA 843, fol. 683, Not. Hoogeboom). On 7 August 1636, Tatick Jansz. signed an agreement with many other Amsterdam merchant-investors: Ernst Roetert, Jan Witsen, Jacob Jansz. Stout, Sybrant Cornelisz. (the notary), Isaack van Beeck (cited in the NOTES to R 2873), J. Ingels (Jan Engel of R 7620), Hans Auxbrebis (probably II of R 25592), Philips de Flines (of R 25545), Gilbert de Flines, Pieter Matthias Sandra, Johan de Marees Danielsz. (cited in the NOTES to R 27188), Daniel Rulandt (Roelandt) (of INVNO 1249), Aernhout Hunthum, Samuel Becker, Oth Cornelissen van Doeven, J. Commersteyn for the widow of Abraham Danckert, the widow of Pieter Poulles, Daniel du Gardijn, Michiel Pauw, Gerrit Pietersen, Johan Amstenraet, Claes Jaspersen, Jasper Rubijn de jonge, Pieter Jacobsz. Purmerend, with the masters of the mills and the owners of the houses and gardens in Buitenveldertshe Polder. The owners had not paid rent for many years. Henceforth they must pay 6 stuivers per rood (NA 836, fol.1325, Not. Bruyningh, Extracten). Pieter Poulle(s) was the son of Susanna du Gardyn, the sister of Daniel du Gardyn, also cited above (NA 951, film 1174, act dated 25 June 1637). On 27 March 1637, Michiel Pauw; Tatick Jansz. Kath; Dirck Hasselaer, captain major of the Gasthuys; Willem van Loon, regent of the Gasthuys (son of Hans van Loon of R 7664); Franck van der Does (of R 29672); Symon van Alckemade; the notary Sybrant Cornelisz. Groenhoven; Aris Dircksz.; Huijch Louris; and Dirck Pietersz., all Ingelanden of the lands under Amstelveen appointed Tatick Jansz. and Ary Dircksz., together with the Schout of Amstelveen Frans van Marcken to go to The Hague to represent their interests in a suit (NA 643, film 4954, Not. Sybrant Cornelisz., fol. 154). From these various documents, it would appear that Tatick Jansz. was a speculator in the drying up of polder lands and their subsequent exploitation. On 2 June 1638, Tatick Jansz., coming from 't Water, was buried. The great clock was rung and 25 f. were paid to the church, which suggests that he was Roman Catholic (DTB 1045/105). Tatick Jansz. and his two sisters paid a tax of 300 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 24, p. 7). Tatick Jansz. may be the father of Jan, Marten, and Adriaen Taticksz., huystimmerman. Jan Tatick was married to Nelletje Jacobs, widow of Huybert Hendricksz. Vinck in 1638 (act of 1 February 1638, NA 867, Not. van Zwieten). On 25 May 1637, Nelletje Jacobs, widow of Jan Taticksz., declared that Teunis Jansz., her swager, owed Tatick Pietersz. a part of the inheritance from Tatick Jansz.(?). She had already received 600 f. as part payment on the inheritance (NA 1184, Not. J. de Vos, fol. 118vo.) From this last deposition, it would appear that the painter Teunis Jansz. was the brother of Tatick Jansz., but there may be several individuals with the name of Teunis Jansz. Jan Tatick also bought silver objects at the present sale. Adriaen Taticksz. was married to Martyntje Frans (WK 5073/789, 1 December 1638). On Tatick Jansz. Kath and his family, see also S.A.C. Dudok van Heel, Twee figuren teveel, De familie Cat en hun memorietafel uit 1517, Jaarboek C.B.G. 50(1996).
