BuyerCornelis Goutsbloem
Buyer FamilyGoutsbloem, Cornelis (Jansz.)
Buyer NotesThe goods left by Griet Jans, the sister of Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem, and Huybrecht Hobbe were sold on 22 March 1625 (INVNO 814). On 19 June 1625, Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem appeared before the Orphan Chamber as uncle and guardian of Gerrit, 16, and Claertgen, 12, the children of Grietgen Jans, whose late father was Huybrecht Hobbe, schipper (WK 5073/789). Huybrecht Hobbe was probably related to (perhaps the brother of) Cornelis Mauritsz. Hobbe, who baptized one of his children with the name Huybert (R 20603). Cornelis Hobbe was also initially a schipper. The last name Goutsbloem is clearly related to the name of the house on the Keysersgracht where Gerrit Jacobsz. Bruijn had died. Cornelis Jansen Goutsbloem and Cornelis Cornelissen de Jonge Fortuyn freighted a ship to St. Uvis on 31 December 1616; on 30 April 1620, on the order of Sr. Diego Wyderhoffer, merchant in Lisbon, he freighted a ship to Dantzig. On both occasions he was said to be a koopman in Amsterdam (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P., 185(1983), p. 481, and vol. 186, p. 348). On 21 June 1635, Cornelis Jansz. Goutsbloem, merchant in Amsterdam, was said to be 45 years old (NA 695A, film 4981).

BuyerDr. Bruijn
Buyer FamilyBruijn, Dr. (Anthony) (Jacobsz.)
Buyer NotesThe buyer is likely to be identical with Antony Bruijnsz, doctor in medicine, 48 years old, who testified on 23 March 1620, at the request of the ardent Remonstrant Abraham Anthonisz., about remarks injurious to the Arminian persuasion that he had heard in a draw-barge going to The Hague (Van Dillen, Documenten betreffende de politieke en kerkelijke twisten te Amsterdam, Bijdragen en mededeelingen van het Historisch Genootschap Utrecht 53(1938), p. 219). He was betrothed to Meyns Jans Bout (1564-1617) on 20 December 1602 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 176). His daughter Cornelia was 17 years old in 1621 (WK 5073/789, fol. 218). On 12 March 1620, the masters of the Orphan Chamber named Doctor Anthony Bruijnsz. guardian over the children left by Dibberich Jansdr., the widow of the retail merchant Abraham Hendricksz. (WK 5073/513, fol. 179). On 13 July 1625, he was named guardian over the daughter of Jan Cornelisz. sailor (WK 5073/789). On 14 January 1627, he was named guardian over the orphan child of his brother Gerrit Jacobsz. Bruyn (of the present inventory) and of Clara Jansdr. (WK 5073/513, fol. 45). In 1631, Dr. Anthony de Bruijn paid a tax of 50 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the West side of the Heeregraft. His orphan daughter (?) paid a tax of 150 f. (Kohier, fol. 87, p. 21 and fol. 314, p. 72). On 9 June 1634, Jacob Jansz. mason, 50, Dirck Wichmans, 34, and Guillaem Laurens (II), 26, declared at the request of Anthony Brunen, doctor in medicine, that, as a result of construction on the house of Jan Blocq, the latter's house now had a common wall with his (Brunen's) (NA 863, Not. van Zwieten). In this deposition the mason Jacob Jansz. gave his age as 50 whereas in a deposition given two years later it was only 45 (R 32152). Yet it is most probably the same person. Dr. Anthony de Bruyn, originally named Anthony Prins, was the son of Jacob Bruijnsz. of Hoorn, apothecary. He lived on the Oude Singel in Amsterdam in de drie Bouten, from which his wife presumably derived her family name.
