Buyersolvit [crossed out: Abraham Davidsz. naest Coymans]
Buyer FamilyDavidsz., Abraham (van der Mye ?)
Buyer NotesThe buyer is probably identical with Abraham Davidsz. van der Mijen, who was already cited in an act of 3 April 1593 with his wife Maria de Marigny Robbrechtsdr. (H. W. Alengs in Maandblad Amstelodamum 46(1959), p. 57). He was taxed 150 f. (plus 60 f. for his wife) in 1631, living on the Rockin next to the Spui (Kohier, fol. 250vo, p. 51). He lived right next to the van der Meyensbrug to which he gave his name (Alengs, loc. cit.) On 14 October 1616, Abraham Davidsz. van der Mye was named as one of the guardians of the children left by Elbert Kan of R 21378. He was the father of Robbert van der Mye of R 19463. On 2 March 1617, he participated in a loan to the States of Zeeland. He obtained a life annuity in the name of another son, Govert van der Mije (cited in the NOTES to R 24922) (ibid.) Govert van der Mije (Meije) may have been an amateur painter (see R 1690). A brother of Abraham Davidsz., named Cornelis Davitson van der Mijen, was a merchant, who was said to be 34 years old in an act dated 8 December 1618 (NA 200). Abraham Davidsz. married for the second time in 1628 with Clementia Symons, widow of Claes Groll (Alengs, op. cit.)

BuyerHendrick Hendricksz.
Buyer FamilyHendricksz., Hendrick
Buyer NotesThe buyer may be Hendrick Hendricxsen who freighted a ship to Riga in 1600 (IJzerman, Economisch- Historisch Jaarboek 17 (1631), p. 258). The same name appears in a company of Schutters, under Captain Jan Jansz. Carel, painted in 1604 by Gerrit Pietersz. as well as in a group portrait of the regents of the Oude Mannen- en Vrouwengasthuis by Cornelis van der Voort. Hendric Hendricxsz. was one of the fathers of this Gasthuis from 1596 to 1625 (Blankert, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, p. 352). It was probably the same indidual who transferred a number of paintings to the Regenten van den Armen Huijs in 1627 (INVNO 520). He may also have been the individual of that name, married to Isabel Rooswinckel, whose daughter Haesgen Hendricks Houtloock, married Hendrick Hooft (of R 31990) on 28 July 1611 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 151). Finally, he may be identical with Henrick Henricksz. who, in January 1617, signed a letter addressed to some preachers in Leiden aimed at getting a Remonstrant preacher to preach in Amsterdam (Wagenaar, Amsterdam, vol. 1, p. 461). The fact that Haesje Henricks, the daughter of Hendrick Hendricksz., the regent of the Gasthuis, who married Hendrick Hooft, signed the Remonstrant petition of 1628 supports the hypothesis that the Gasthuis father and the signatory of the 1617 letter are one and the same.

BuyerJan de Vos
Buyer FamilyVos, Jan de (I)
Buyer NotesThe buyer cannot be identical with the beer wholesaler or distributor Jan de Vos of R 36666, who bought lots at an Orphan Chamber sale in 1627 and was probably born in 1605. This Jan de Vos (II) may have been his son. He seems to have been a copper beater, a maker of kettles for dying and other purposes. On 8 May 1633, a koperslager named Steven Jansz. declared that he had learned the craft from his master Jan de Vos (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven 144(1974), p. 15). Jan de Vos I may be the individual who was said to be the curator of the goods of Olivier van der Vincke, who was one of the creditors of Pieter van Houten, feather merchant (plumassier), in 1618 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 78(1933), pp. 307-8 and the NOTES to R 21444). He may have been the husband of Beatrix van der Heede, whose death inventory (after the death of Jan de Vos) was taken on 3 September 1640 (NA 413, film 1381, Not. F. Bruyning). The feather merchant Pieter van Houten dealt in part in ostrich feathers. On 16 July 1619, Pieter van Houten (I), pluymassier, named his son Pieter van Houten de jonge (II) to obtain delivery from Hans van de Put, merchant in Hainaut, of all such ostrich feathers that he had bought from Hans van der Put. The latter is probably identical with Hans van de Put(te) I, the father of Hans van der Putte II, the cousin of Isaack van Conincxloo (conjecture). Pieter van Houten II may have been a painter (see the ENTRY to R 29666).

BuyerPieter Houffijser
Buyer FamilyHouffijser, Pieter
Buyer NotesThe buyer, Pieter Martensz. Hoeffijser, 1581-1647, was receiver general of the Admiralty, as his father Marten Jansz. Hoeffijser had been before him. The father, who was married to Trijnken Tijmens, invested 3000 f. in V.O.C. shares in the first subscription (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 207). Pieter Hoeffijer paid a tax of 500 f. in 1631, at which time he lived on the West side of the Zeedijck (Kohier, fol. 135 vo. page 32). He married Aeltgen Sticke, from Deventer, daughter of Dirck Sticke, bourgomaster of Deventer, on 8 April 1603. He died in 1647 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 358). On 14 December 1606, Pieter Hoefijser and his wife Aeltje Sticke had their son Jan baptized in the presence of Jan Pietersz. Kolf and Jan Jansz. Valckenier (standing in for Dr. Sticke) (DTB 4/183). Aeltgen Sticke was the sister of Hendrick Sticke of R 21614. After Pieter Hoefijser went bankrupt, an inventory of his possessions was taken on 13 April 1641 (INVNO 433).

BuyerJacob Backer schepen
Buyer FamilyBacker, Jacob
Buyer NotesThe buyer was born on 26 April 1572 and died on 22 April 1643 (unmarried). He became alderman in 1610, the year of the sale, and burgermeester in 1632. He lived on the O.Z. Achterburchwal (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 238). The former alderman Jacob Backer, living as above, paid a tax of 325 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 134 vo., p. 31). It was probably in 1632 that Captain Jacob Backer and Lieutenant Jacob Rogh were portrayed by Claes Elias on the occasion of a banquet of their company of schutters (Blankert, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, p. 112).

BuyerFranck van der Does
Buyer FamilyDoes, Franck van der
Buyer NotesOn 28 March 1608, Franck van der Does, from Gorinchem, 36, living on the N.Z. Voorburgwal, assisted by his uncle Willem van der Does, schout of this city, was betrothed to Anna Broers, from Antwerp, 24, assisted by her father Hans Broers and her mother Anna Hack (DTB 413/143). Franck van der Does was the cousin of Simon Willemsz. van der Does of R 28462 (in the NOTES of which he appears in connection with the inability of Simon Jacobsz. van der Does to pay the full tax on his wealth). If Elias is right that Jacob Simonsz. van der Does, born in 1565, had only one son, then Franck must be the son of some other brother of Willem and Jacob van der Does. Hans Broers, a merchant from Antwerp, was first noted in Amsterdam in 1585 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 296). The commies Vranck van der Does testified on 22 October 1608 that the fleet that had shipped out in 1595 to the East Indies had no commission to attack the Spanish or the Portuguese (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 99). He paid a tax of 100 f. in 1631, living on the East side of the Keysersgracht (Kohier, fol. 295, p. 67). On 19 September 1635, he was said to be 66 years old (thus born in 1569, three years earlier than he claimed at the time of his betrothal in 1608) when he made a deposition at the request of Adriaen Braems of R 25313 (NA 695A, film 4981). (In 1637, Adriaen Braems was named as guardian over the children of Simon Jacobsz. van der Does). Anna Broers, wife of Frans van der Does, was buried on 4 June 1642; he was buried on 27 January 1645 (NA 1046/13 and 1054/100 resp.)
