BuyerAbraham van Soest
Buyer FamilySoest, Abraham van (I)
Buyer NotesAbraham van Soest I bought two sets of lots, both for 1 f. 16 st., in the Haarlem lottery of 1606 (GAA, 51/54 F 397 and 51/91 F 401). He was named as one of the two guardians of the children of Guillem van Lochem, tailor, of the present inventory, on 7 August 1613. After his death, his son Abraham van Soest de jonge (II) was appointed guardian in his place on 23 October 1615 (WK 5073/513). The widow of Abraham van Soest (I), living in the Warmoesstraet, paid a tax of 180 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 167vo, p. 39). He was the (half) brother of Hans van Soest II and the father of Abraham van Soest II (cited above). Hans van Soest II, in turn, was the father of Hester van Soest II (whose pre-nuptial contract with Jacob van den Haeren was cited in the TEXT to R 1074 of Montias1). On 18 January 1634, Abraham van Soest (II), merchant, transferred and ceded to Christoffel and Jan Rapaen four bales of belladine silk (NA 643, NOt. Hoogeboom). The inventory of the late Abraham van Soest (II) was drawn up on or about 1 December 1661. The total value of the movable goods came to 2,141 f. and 10 stuivers, of the works of art to 142 f. (NA 1559, film 1665). On 4 February 1652, Abraham van Soest (II?), widower of Sara de Cham, drew up a pre-nuptial agreement with Marie Jans, assisted by Jan Dircksz. her father and Jacob Philipsz. her brother-in-law (NA 1597, fol. 94, Not. W. Hasen). Abraham van Soest II was the cousin of the merchant from Antwerp named Abraham Jacquesz. van Soest, whose daughter Johanna, born in 1661, married Dr. David ten Hove in 1681 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 928).
