BuyerVolckert Roeremacker
Buyer FamilyRoeremacker, Volckert
Buyer NotesIn the accounting of the estate of Elbert Simonsz. Pool, who lived on the N.Z. Kapellesteeg (INVNO 644), rent due by Volckert de Roeremacker (pistol maker) on 16 December 1623, for 52 f. 10 st., was recorded (WK 5073/1192). In 1631, Volcard Jansz. Roermaecker, living in the Haerlemmerstraet, near the Bouwersgracht, paid a tax of 5 f. (Kohier, fol. 201, p. 46). On 21 August 1625, Wolffert Volckertsz., pistol maker (roeremaecker) appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared that his 5 children, Claes, 21, Vrouwtgen, 20, Abraham, 18, Isaac, 17, and Saertgen, 13, whose mother was Hermtgen Claes were entitled to 8,000 f. for their mother's inheritance (WK 5073/789). Wolffert was almost certainly the son of Volckert Roeremaecker, perhaps from an earlier marriage. On 10 August 1634, Wolphert Vockertsz., 54, testified at the request of Abraham Anthonisz. (of R 20033) that 45 musquets had been sent to Moscovy two years previously, but some (being defective?) had been returned (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). Wolphert Volckertsz., roeremacker, was cited in a deposition of 4 July 1636, made at the request of Dirck Hendricksz., who was also a pistol maker (NA 521, film 6505, Not. Westfrisius). Wolffert Volcardsz., who lived on the East side of the Nieuwendijck, paid a tax of 30 f. in 1631 (Kohier , fol. 76, p.9).

BuyerWillem Hendrixsz. Verwer
Buyer FamilyHendrixsz. (Hendricksz.), Willem (Verwer)
Buyer NotesThe buyer Willem Hendricksz., who was a dyer, was often called Verwer after his occupation. On 19 May 1611, Willem Henrix, 20, living in the verwerijen, assisted by his father Heynrick Claessen Verwer and his mother Griet Cornelis was betrothed to Annetje Pieters Spiegel, 21, , assisted by her father Pieter Laurensz. Spiegel and her mother Grietgen Pietersdr. The fiance signed Willem Hendricksz. Verwer (DTB 93/137). Annetge Spiegel died before 26 October 1632 when Pieter Laurensz. Spiegel (of R 7612), Laurens Spiegel and Willem Henricx as father of the children created by the late Annetge Spiegel offered for sale (qua usufruct) an orchard near Overtoom with 41 morgen of land. The larger portion was bought by Melchior van Hoorn of INVNO 395 (I. van Eeghen, 't huis te Vragh in de banne van Slooten Jaarboek Amstelodamum pp.46-7). On 24 April 1631, Willem Hendricksz. verwer (dyer) and his brother (half brother ?) Henrick Claesz., also dyer, settled the accounts of a company for dyeing cloth, called t Blauwe Laken, and the division of the profits and losses that had taken place since the death of their mother Grietgen Cornelis. Hendrick Claesz. was owed 13,000 f. as his share of the capital and of profits. The works were situated over 't oudemannenhuys in Amsterdam. The company was dissolved on 28 December 1633 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven, R.G.P., 78(1933) p. 757, and 144(1974), p. 38). Hendrick Claesz. was the father of Claes Hendricksz., dyer, of R 7667, He may also be identical with the individual of that name who died before 1635 when a sale of his possessions took place (INVNO 919). Willem Hendricksz., dyer, living on the Vorste Verwerstraet, was taxed 80 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 222vo, p. 51.) On 9 February 1634, Sybrant Meijndertsz., 43, testified at the request of the curators of the estate of Willem Hendricksz. Verwer, that he had heard in an inn that Willem Hendricksz. was bankerot. Some women said it was true and that he could pass it on (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 15 February 1634, Jan Warnaerts, notary, together with the curators of the estate of Willem Hendricksz., dyer, namely Nicolaes Balestel (of R 36475), Carel Looten (the father of Jan Looten of INVNO 286), and Francois de Neve (cited in the NOTES to R 8340), went to the house of Willem Hendricx. There they asked Hendrick Claesz. (Willem's brother) whether he was involved in his brother's dyeworks and why he had advanced money for the establishment. He said he had done it to pass away the time. He had invested in the dyeworks at his mother's request, without any interest therein (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). The faillit inventory of Willem Hendricx was taken on 17 February 1634. The paintings were evaluated on May 16 (INVNO 1245). On 2 December 1635, Jan Hendricksz. Admirael of R 35467 relinquished his rights to a tulip bulb named Paragon schilder for the benefit of Willem Hendricksz. Verwer who had paid Admirael for it (NA 917). Hendrick Claesz. was perhaps the husband of Marie Vlaming (WK 5073/789). Hendrick Claesz. and Maria Vlaming both died shortly before 8 June 1639 when their inventory was taken. It contained a painting of the Church in Antwerp. The couple was Roman Catholic (NA 569, Not. Lamberti).
