He was the uncle of Johannes Troost whom he assisted on the occasion of his betrothal with Anna le Miire (Maire) on 2 June 1643 (see the TEXT of R 142 of Montias1). |

Buyer | Claes Wandelman op de Oude Schans |
Buyer Family | Wandelman, Claes |
Buyer Notes | In 1606, Claes Wandelman, living in the Ridderstraet, bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 1 f. 16 st. (GAA, 95/10 F 714). On 6 August 1609, Claes Wandelman, 25 years old, living on the Koningstraet, assisted by his mother Marye van Stompwyck, was betrothed to Aefje Claesdr., 19, living on the N.Z. Achterburchwal, assisted by her father Claes Pietersz. van Vierhuysen (DTB 414/117). Aefje was the sister of Jan Claesz. van Vierhuysen of R 28941. Marye van Stompwyck may be identical with Maeycken van Stompwijck, widow of Matheus Wandelman, who invested 300 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 213). Aefje Claes was the sister of Jan Claesz. van Vierhuysen of R 28941, of Aeltge Claes van Vierhuysen, who married Jan Hendricksz. Rotgans, from Alkmaar, on 17 April 1605, and, presumably, of Trijn Claes, cited below. On 3 February 1613, Claes Wandelman and Aefjen Claes had their son Matheus baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Jan Heinricksz. Rotgans (Aefjen Claes's brother-in-law) and of Trijn Claesdr. (DTB 5/52). On 1 March 1615, the same parents had their daughter Meijnsjen baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Ael Klaes (Aefje's sister, married to Jan Hendricksz. Rotgans) and Jan Cornelisz. Wittert (DTB 5/134). Elisabeth Wandelman, the daughter of Claes Wandelman and Aefje Claes (van Vierhuijsen), born in Meerestein in 1610, married Pieter Garbantsz. van Hoorn, tar dealer in the O.Z. Teerhuizen, on 23 June 1631 (DTB 437/227). Pieter Garbrantsz. was buried on 28 April 1632. Elisabeth Wandelman was buried on 23 May 1662. Both Pieter Garbransz. and Elisabeth Wandelman became Roman Catholic (Dudok van Heel in Jaarboek C.B.G. 35(1981), pp. 75-6). On 6 February 1631, Wouter Wandelman, 45, merchant, assisted by his brother Claes Wandelman, living on the Breestraet, was betrothed to Machtelt Jans, from Wesel, 36 (DTB 437/78). On 27 June 1634, Abraham van der Platsen, silversmith, 52, declared at the request of Wouter Wandelman that he, the witness, had bought at a public auction of the W.I.C. some silverware for 840 f. He had for sureties Balthasar van Dortmont (son of Melchior van Dortmont I of R 31176) and Johannes van Linderen. He was told he needed two other sureties. He asked that the first two be cancelled. But the authority insisted on the first two remaining sureties along with the two new ones (Wouter Wandelman and Pieter van Assenburch, cited in the NOTES to R 24408). And this has remained the situation (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). Wouter Wandelman passed his testament with his wife Machtelt Jans, on 31 May 1636. His children and heirs were Matheus, Catharina, Govaert, and Johannes as his heirs (NA 642, fol. 173). In February 1638 (exact date unknown), Dirck Pruijs, advocate of the V.O.C. and Aeffge de Wael, widow of Pieter de Vlaming (born 1563), in his life Burgomaster of Amsterdam (1621, 1623, 1626, 1628), made a declaration at the request of the merchant Nicolaes Wandelman. First Pruijs declared that his father-in-law Reynier van Heemskerck, advocate of the V.O.C. had died on 2 June 1633. Then Aeffje de Wael declared that Pieter de Vlaming de oude, her brother-in-law (she was married to Pieter de Vlaming de jonge), had died on 27 November 1635 and his brother Cornelis de Vlaming on 6 March 1634. Rombout Jacobsz., tresorier of Amsterdam, declared that Lysbet de Vlaming, the sister of Pieter de Vlaming. was still alive (NA 1276, film 1353, act 60). Pieter I, Pieter II, Cornelis and Lysbeth de Vlaming were children of Dirck Cornelisz. de Vlaming (1533-1568). Their dates of death do not seem to have been known to Elias (see Vroedschap pp. 223 and 226-7). On 29 September 1638, Sr. Nicolaes Wandelman and Aefge Claes van Vierhuysen declared at the request of Hendrick Claesz. Rotgans, living in Alkmaar that they had bought three lambs from the producent at 25 f. a piece (NA 1276, Act 20, Notary P. Barcman). Hendrick Rotgans was presumably the father of Jan Hendricksz. Rotgans, from Alkmaar, the husband of Aeltge Claes van Vierhuysen, the sister-in-law of Nicolaes Wandelman. On 20 April 1649, Carel van Savoijen (Savoy), painter, from Antwerp, 28, living op de Dam, was betrothed to Catharina Wandelman, from Amsterdam, 18, assisted by her mother Machteltje Wandelman, living on the Calverstraet (DTB 466/469). On 31 January 1659, Carel Savoij and Catharina Wandelman had a child baptized in a Catholic schuilkerk. The god parents were Walterus Kerckhorn and Anna Maegd (DTB 359/52). For the death inventory of Catharina Wandelman, dated 25 November 1671, see INVNO 454. |

Buyer | Elias Staal |
Buyer Family | Staal [or Stael], Elias |
Buyer Notes | On 17 April 1631, Elias Stael, norembergier (a retailer of various goods, including metal products) appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared that his three children, named Jan, 17, Cornelis, 14, and Maria, 11, whose late mother was Maria Jans de Jonghe, were entitled to 20,000 f. for their mother's inheritance (WK 5073/789). Elias Stael paid a tax of 50 f. in 1631, at which time he lived in the Warmoesstraet (Kohier, fol. 143vo, p. 33.) In the inventory of Willem Fransz. blickslager (tole or tinsmith), dated 4 May 1638, Elias Stael was said to owe the estate for 305 f. 6 st. for blick delivered (NA 714, film 5149, Not. P. Carels). On 8 August 1639, Salomon and Jacob Lievensz. contracted with Rabbi Menasse ben Israel to print 3,000 bibles in Hebrew. The books were supposed to be deposited in the hands of Elias Dael living in the Warmoesstraet (probably identical with Elias Stael who lived in that street) until a debt due by Jacob Lievensz. to Salomon Lievensz. had been repaid (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P., 144(1974), p. 237.) |
