BuyerPieter Jacobsz. (in de Indische Raven)
Buyer FamilyJacobsz., Pieter (Indische Raven) (I)
Buyer NotesPieter Jacobsz. Indische Raven, son of Rombout Jacobsz. I and Claerken Claesdr. Colijn (perhaps a relative of Jan Colijn I), was born in Antwerp in 1570 (or later if a deposition dated 14 September 1619 is to be believed where he was said to be 39 (NA 200, film 111). He lived in the Warmoesstraet in Amsterdam in 1594 and later in the Monkelbaansburchwal in de Indische Raven. He invested 900 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 172). He bought lots for 3 f. 12 st. in the Haarlem lottery of 1606, at which time he lived in de Indische Raven op de Wael (GAA, 31/49 F 252). He married 1) Lijsbeth Willems on 23 August 1594 and 2) Cathalina van Wynegem, of South Netherlandish origin, on 28 August 1616 (Elias, Vroeschap, p. 80). He died shortly before 4 October 1624, when Jacques Rombouts and Rombout Jacobsz. (de jonge of R 26967), the uncles of his children (and thus his brothers), together with Rochus Pietersz., their schoonman(in-law), were named guardians over these children (WK 5073/513, fol. 21). Rochus Pietersz. of R 26958 was married to Catharina Jacobs, who was closely related to Pieter Jacobsz. Indische Raven I (his sister ?). Catharina van Wijnegen, the widow of the buyer, continued her husband's business after his death (1625) (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 305). In the deposition cited above of 14 September 1619, Pieter Jacobsz. Indische Raven, 39, and Eduart Emtinck, 48, (cited in R 508 of Montias1), both honest merchants, declared at the request of Nicholaes Hermansz., residing in Middelburgh, that they were curators over the insolvent estate of Anthony Claessen (de jonge, the father of the painter of the same name) (NA 200). Pieter Jacobsz. Indische Raven II, the son of the buyer, also a buyer at auction (R 33266), was baptized on 29 August 1604. On 16 January 1626, the other children of Pieter Jacobsz. Indische Raven I's first marriage were said to be Rombout, 24 years old, Sara 18, and Christoffel (of R 33990) 15. The minor children of his second marriage were Gileam 8 and Jan 6 (WK 5073/549). In addition, a daughter named Magdalen Indische Raven married Dirck de Keijser of R 26966. The widow of Pieter Indische Raven I, living on the Breestraet, paid a tax of 40 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 218vo, p. 50). On Claer Claes Colijn, see also R 31491 and R 31326.
