BuyerPieter Brames
Buyer FamilyBrames (Braems), Pieter
Buyer NotesThe wine dealer Pieter Braems, who frequently delivered wine to the city, paid a tax of 25 f. in 1585, at which time he lived on the Kerckstraet (Van Dillen, Amsterdam in 1585, p. 20). He later lived in Ceulen in the Warmoesstraet (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 31). Pieter Braems was buried in the O.K. on 19 February 1607. A sum of 16 f. 7 st. was paid to the church for his burial. His daughter Anneke Braems, born in 1606, married Volckert Dircksz. Coornhert of R 7628. On 5 December 1612, the attorney Jan de Wit (I), the father of Jan de Witte II of R 20748, was appointed by the masters of the Orphan Chamber as guardian over the two minor sons, Jacob and Jan, of Pieter Braems, wine dealer (WK 5073/513). Pieter Braems may have been the brother of Jan Brames of the present inventory. Pieter Braems, the son of Jan Braems, who later lived in Haarlem, may have been his grandson or grandnephew (see R 23694).

BuyerWyntgen van Dyck
Buyer FamilyDyck, Wyntgen (Weyntgen) van
Buyer NotesOn 30 December 1595, Symon Claesse, 24 years old, living in the Teertuynen, assisted by Claes Garbrantsz., his father, and Jan Claesz., his brother, was betrothed to Weyntgen Jacobs van Dijck, 25, living in the Warmoesstraet, assisted by her mother Trijntjen Dignoms (DTB 407/315). On the wine dealer Symon Claesz., who was also a buyer, see R 31442. Symon and Jan Claesz. were the brothers of the wine dealer Garbrant Claesz. (van Hoorn). They were the sons of Claes Garbrantsz. (Schilt), who was buried, coming from the Zeedijck, on 3 July 1628. Their mother was named Trijn Jans van Hoorn (hence the name adopted by her sons). After Garbrant Claesz. and his wife Tryn Pieters died, Jacob Pietersz. Nachtglas (brewer in De Nachtglas) and Zeger Pietersz., goldsmith (of R 32330, the brother of Pieter Lastman) appeared before the Orphan Chamber as guardians of their three children on 12 January 1629 (WK 5073/789). These three children included Claes Garbrantsz. van Hoorn, baptized in Amsterdam on 29 July 1604 and buried on 3 July 1628; Pieter Garbrantsz. van Hoorn, baptized in Amsterdam on 21 August 1605, leather dealerin the O.Z. Teerhuizen, who was betrothed to Elisabeht Wandelman, the daughter of Claes Wandelman of R 32408; and Jacob Garbrantsz. van Hoorn, baptized in Amsterdam on 1 July 1607, sailmaker, who was betrothed to Trijntje Goossens van Florti, the daughter of Goossen Jansz., bode to Antwerp, on 1 July 1607. (Goossen Jansz. may be the buyer of R 20854). Jacob Garbrantsz. was buried on 25 August 1633. After his death, Trijntje Goossens remarried with Cornelis Prins, surgeon, on 25 April 1645 (Dudok van Heel in Jaarboek C.B.G. 35(1981), pp. 75-6).

BuyerReynier van Buren
Buyer FamilyBuren, Reynier van (de oude, I)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was a prominent wineseller, born in Buren in 1571. He invested 2,400 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 210). He was one of the regents of the confrerie of wine dealers in 1621 when he was represented with his confreres in a group portrait by Nicolaes Elias Pickenoy (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 78(1933), p. 601.) On 7 October 1605, Reynier Reyniersz. van Buren, 34 years old, living in the Warmoesstraet, no living parents, was betrothed to Marij Gerrits (Bril), 24, living on the Dam, assisted by her mother Mary Jans (DTB 411/595). In 1606, when his daughter Reijniertje was three days old, Reynier van Buren bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 11 f. 2 st. He was then living in Gendt in the Warmoesstraet (GAA 21/76 F 1151). He was also a collector for the same lottery. On 14 October 1612, Reynier and his wife Mary Gerrits had their son Pieter baptized in the O.K. in the presence of David van den Eynden, Mary Jans (the mother of Marij Gerrits), and Meijntien Boeraters (DTB 5/37). David van den Eynden (Eijnde) was a merchant of Antwerp origin (probably the brother of Jan (or Hans) van den Eijnde de oude of R 21207). He was born about 1566, was first noted in Amsterdam in 1594, and became a poorter of the city in 1598 (Gelderblom, Prosopographic Data Base and Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 299). On 8 November 1619, Reynier van Buren, 50, Ryckert Hendricx, 49, and Hillebrant Bentes (of INVNO 348), 29, made a deposition at the request of Adriaen Janssen van den Berch (probably the cousin of Samuel Meyer of R 2005). Reijnier van Bueren wa buried in the O.K. on 27 August 1632 (DTB 1045/46). On 18 January 1635, an inventory was taken of the goods left by Reynier van Buren, wine dealer. Among the debts due to the estate (for wine purchased), the widow Exalto (of R 7654), Pelgrem van Hooft, pastry baker (of R 20353), and Heere Jansz., kistemacker (of R 20918) were said to owe small amounts (NA 568, film 6548, fol. 729 and foll.) Heere Jansz. was also a master framemaker (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), p. 177). After the death of his father Reynier van Buren de oude, Reijnier van Buren de jonge was betrothed to Margriet Coppit on 24 January 1633 (DTB 440/127). The younger Van Buren was a brandy (as well probably as a wine) dealer. He appears to have been solvent in 1636. On 23 May of that year David Otsen Born (of R 26691), Pieter van Buyren (I) (of R 31804), together with Dirck van Dans (of INVNO 205) and Johannes Spiers (of R 23553) ratified an agreement he had made with his creditors (NA 991, fol. 48, Not. J. Bosch). In 1631, Reynier van Buren (de oude) and his schoonvader paid a tax of 750 f. They were then living near the corner of the Papenbruchsteech (Kohier, fol. 140, p. 33). Judith van Bueren, the daughter of Reynier van Bueren de oude, married Jan Spiers of R 23553 on 31 December 1631. Pieter van Bueren I (or Buyren) of R 31804 was probably the brother of Reynier van Bueren de oude. Pieter van Buren II, who may have been the son of Pieter van Buren I, was also a wine dealer. In a contract of 5 February 1646, he joined with Johan van Gherwen to form an association that dealt both in silk and silk goods and in wines. Pieter van Buren contributed 15,000 f. capital (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), p. 455). On 13 February 1650, the insolvent silk spinner Paulus Courtois declared that he owed Pieter van Buren (II), merchant, the sum of 1194 f. for 139 pounds of raw silk for sewing and lacemaking that Van Buren had sold him (ibid. p. 549).
