Buyer Notes | Jacob Huych Thomas was named concierge of Amsterdam in 1587 and died in 1617. His responsibilities included the sale of insolvent estates, for which he had to put up a security of 1,000 f. He invested 1,800 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares in 1602 (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 149). His death inventory of 1617 contained an untitled painting and a geschilderde pot by Pieter Aertsen (Oud Holland 7(1889), p. 19). (E. van Eeghen, Jaarboek Amstelodamum, 61(1969), pp. 73-4.) He was followed as concierge by his son Thomas Hughsz. Haring. Both Thomas Hughsz. and his son the attorney Jacob Thomasz. Haring were portrayed by Rembrandt. |
