Buyer Notes | Jasper Jansz. was apparently the brother of Gabriel Jansz. and of Pauls Jansz. of the present inventory. Gabriel Jansz. (Jansen) was a shoemaker and retail merchant (kramer) born in Antwerp, first noted in Amsterdam in 1589 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 305). He seems to have been the husband of Aeltgen Moens, who died, as widow, shortly before 11 March 1625, when her goods were sold (INVNO 608). On 19 April 1614, Alkoy Moens, widow of Gaborel (Gabriel) Jansz., born in Antwerp, passed her testament. She left her sister Susanna Jans 100 Flemish pounds. She named Lysbeth Jans as her universal heiress (NA 206, fol. 41-44, Not. P. Bruijs, Extracten). Gabriel and Jasper Jansz. must not be confused with Gabriel, Jasper, and Pauwels Jansz. IJpelaer. Gabriel Jansz. IJpelaer (of INVNO 264) married Elisabeth Ariens in 1635. Pauwels married Magdalena Jans, the daughter of Balthasar Janss of INVNO 1241. It is possible that the two sets of Gabriel, Jasper, and Pauwels were related. (The three older men, for instance, may have been brothers of Balthasar Janss, who used his patronymic as his last name). |
