BuyerSeger Pietersz.
Buyer FamilyPietersz., Seger (Coninck)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was the brother of the painters Pieter and Claes Lastman and of Jacob Pietersz. Hardingh. On 24 August 1601, Zeger Pietersz., goldsmith, 22 years old, assisted by his father Pieter Zegersz., was betrothed to Grietgen Cornelis, 19, livng on the N.Z. Achterburchwal, assisted by her mother Tryn Jacobs (DTB 665/174). On 10 October 1612, Cornelis Sybrantsz., goldsmith, appeared before notary Jacob Jacobsz., assisted by his mother Geertgen Gerrits, on one side, and IJtgen Evertsdr., assisted by Zeger Pietersz., her guardian and neef, on the other, for their marriage contract. The witnesses were Andries Hendricksz., swager of Cornelis Ysbrantsz., and Pieter Lastman (the painter, of R 20157), also neef of IJtgen Everts (NA 422, film 6438, fol. 187). Andries Hendricksz., goldsmith, bought books at the sale of Neel Dircx of 9 January 1618 (INVNO 891). Seger Pietersz., like other known members of the family, was Roman Catholic. He was a prominent jeweler and goldsmith, at one time headman of the silversmiths' guild and at another keurmeester. On 12 September 1624 he acknowledged receipt of 410 livres for the delivery of 14 silver pilots' whistles to Anthoine Mutin, who was apparently representing the French Royal Navy (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P.78(1933), p. 545). On 11 March 1631, he was dean of the keurmeesters and with two other colleagues, he represented the headmen of the guild in a petition to the Generaalmeesters of the Mint for new silver standards (Van Dillen, op. cit. 78(1933), pp. 752-3). On 13 August 1635, Jacob Pietersz. Nachtglas, 56, Seger Pietersz., 56, and Dirck van Neck, 46 (of R 32156) were the guardians of the minor-age children of the late Garbrant Claesz. van Hoorn (see the NOTES to R 31432); these same Seger Pietersz. and Dirck van Neck were the guardians of the children left by Jacob Claesz. van Hoorn (of INVNVO 813), Garbrant Claesz.'s brother, who was also a wine dealer . The guardians passed a procuration to collect money in Schagen (NA 991, fol. 58vo, Not. J. Bosch). On 13 December 1635, Jacob Jacobsz. carpenter, son of Jacob Pietersz. (Hardingh), acknowledged a debt of 150 f. that he owed to (his uncle) Seger Pietersz. Coninck, goldsmith. As collateral he pledged rents due to him from several houses, including de Antick Schaer, as well from the house where Pieter Vermeulen was living (NA 597, fol. 187, Not. Lamberti). On 14 April 1636, Seger Pietersz., silversmith, constituted himself surety for the guardians of Garbrant Garbrantsz., the son of minor age of Garbrant Claesz., wine dealer (NA 991, fol. 37, Not. J. Bosch). On 10 July 1640, Seger Pietersz., 61, Jan Cranenburch, 51, Herman Becx (II or III) (cited in R 26927), 48, Pieter Vermeulen (cited above), 47, Abraham Verplancken, 46, Jan Heijeman, 37, Volckert Albertsz., 35, Hendrick Barentsz. (wine distributor, cited in R 498 of Montias1), 33, Pieter Uylenburgh, 40, Roelof Jansz. Somer, 30, Hendrick Jordaen, 30, Engel Uylenburg, 32, Hendrick Jansz., 30, Cristiaen Grofel(?), 28, and Willem Fonteijn, 26, all neighbors in the St. Janstraet, declared at the request of Jan Metcalf that the producent (Metcalf), presently in arrest (gieselingh) had always conducted himself as an honest man (NA 1601, fol. 71, Not. W. Hasen). Of these neighbors on the St. Janstraet, only Harman Becx (II or III), who paid a wealth tax of 5 f. in 1631 tax, and Seger Pietersz., who paid 25 f., were recorded in the 1631 Kohier (fol. 172vo, p.40). Hendrick Jordaens(s) became insolvent in 1649. His goods, including some paintings, were inventorized in between 3 and 20 August 1649 (DBK 5072/355 (old)). Willem Jansz. Fonteijn (Fontain) was a cakebaker. He was the son of Neltge Cronen of INVNO 553. 1636 On 30 January 1650, when he was 71 years old, Seger Pietersz., the brother of the painter Pieter Lastman, made a deposition at the request of the goldsmiths' guild (NA 1818, film 2083). His daughter Clementia married, first, the notary Albert Eggericx,, the son of Cornelis Eggericx of R 20408. After Albert's death, she remarried with the surgeon Dirck Vennecool, the son of the surgeon Steven Vennecool (of R 26587) and of Jannetje Jans on 12 April 1657 (Dudok van Heel in Jaarboek C.B.G. 48(1991), p. 129). After the death of Dirck Vennecool in 1664, an inventory of their belongings was taken which included several paintings by Pieter Lastman (ibid.) In 1624, Seger Pietersz., silversmith, lived in the St. Annastraet (WK 5073/950, sale of Weyn Jans, whose art objects are covered in INVNO 949).

BuyerJeroen Le Febure inde Hartestraet
Buyer FamilyFebure (Lefebvre), Jeroen le (de)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was a cloth merchant. On 22 August 1628, Jeronimus Lefebvre, laeckencoper, rented dye works from Pieter Varlet, which had formerly belonged to the late Lambert Lambertsz., situated buyten den Heyligeweghspoorte of Amsterdam, for two years (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P.78(1933), p. 655). Pieter Varlet was a merchant and silk dyer who, on 25 January 1634, gave a procuration to the goldsmith Jeronimus Sulles of The Hague to collect money from Jacques [Nijts?] (NA 409, Not. Nicolaes Jacobsz.) Jeroen le Febure is presumed to be identical with the individual of the name who was still living in Haarlem on 2 October 1610 when he was betrothed to Susanna Carteau. He was said to be a kamerykdoeckwercker (a weaver of fine Kameryk cloth). He came from Cateau-Cambresis and was the widower of Anne Germain. Both were literate (DTB 414/386.) At some date prior to 30 July 1630, Jeroen le Fevre had sold to Bartholomeus Segers a diamond ring worth 1,500 f. on which Dirck de Bisschop, the son of Jan Philips de Bisschop (of R 27711), had some claims, which he ceded on this date to Philips Thijsz. (of R 30694).
