BuyerClaes Lambertsz.
Buyer FamilyLambertsz., Claes
Buyer NotesThe buyer was probably the father of Zacharias Claesz., the owner of the goods sold, who assisted his son on the occasion of his betrothal on 29 May 1603 (R 35935). He is almost certainly identical with the individual of that name who was a regent of the N.Z. Huiszittenhuis in 1589 (Wagenaar, Amsterdam, vol. 2, p. 266). On 1 November 1595, he was said to be a grain dealer when he acquired a part in a ship sailing to Dantzig (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P. 178(1981), p. 389). On 9 May 1599, Claes Lambertsz. protested the failure of Hendrick Cornelissen to pay a letter of credit for 378 Flemish pounds (2268 f.) drawn on Lambertsz.'s behalf (Winkelman, ibid. p. 199.) Claes Lambertsz., concierge van Amsterdam, died before 1605. In a testament of 24 May 1605, Gierte Claesdr., daughter of the late Claes Lambertsz., concierge of Amsterdam, named the children of her brother Lambert Claesz. as her universal heirs. Lambert Claesz. was the guardian of the children of Zacharias Claesz. (see R 750 of Montias1). In case all these children were to die, she names the son of her half sister, named Pieter Lodewijcxz., in their stead. Pieter Lodewijcxz. is probably the individual at whose request goods were sold by the WK in 1609 (INVNO 703). He was married to Maria Jansdr. Their twins Lodewijck and Jan were baptized on 22 November 1593. Finally she names her uncle Claes Dircxz. and her neef, the future schepen Jacob Gerritsz. Hoing, as the executors of her testament. Hoing was a cousin of Gillis Bellesier of R 35272 (NA 5A, fol. 236, Not. Pilorius, Extracten). The death inventory of Lambert Claesz. dyer, who may be related to Lambert Claesz., was taken on 6 July 1644 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 144(1974), p. 420).

BuyerStompwyck [crossed out: Lambert Claesz.]
Buyer FamilyStompwyck, (Pieter van)
Buyer NotesThe buyer is almost certainly Pieter van Stomwyck, the father-in-law of Zacharias Claesz., the late owner of the goods sold (see R 750 of Montias1). (Pieter van Stompwyck was the purchaser of the next lot). According to a deposition, he was 38 years old in 1596 (Winkelman, Bronnen voor de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Oostzeehandel R.G.P. 179(1981), p. 415). Van Stompwijck was an important merchant who freighted 6 ships between 1597 and 1602 (IJzerman, Economisch-historisch Jaarboek, 17(1931), p. 272). He invested 1,200 f. in the first subscription for V.O.C. shares in 1602. In 1606, he was living in the house Coninxbergen (on the Raamsgracht), when Andryes Burgersz., who was living in his house, bought lots in the Haarlem lottery. Ann and Susanna Ullens, the daughters of Jan Baptista Ullens, also living in his house, bought lots for 6 st. each (GAA, 108/12 F 798, 799, and 800). On 8 May 1608, together with the merchant Pieter Claesz., he signed a contract for the exploitation of a soap-boiling establishment (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 211). Also in 1608, he signed a petition with other Amsterdam merchants requesting the revocation of the prohibition on the use of cashiers in effecting money transfers (Van Dillen, Wisselbanken, R.G.P.. 59(1925), p. 16). He was buried on 29 September 1620 (DTB 1053/334).

Buyereadem (de vrou (van Zacharias Claesz.))
Buyer Familyde vrou (van Zacharias Claesz.) (Jannetje van Stompwijck)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was the widow of the late Zacharias Claesz. On 23 May 1603, Zacharias Claesz., 29 years old, living op 't Water, assisted by his father Claes Lambertsz., was betrothed to Jannetke van Stompwijck Pieters, 18, living on the N.Z. Achterburchwal, assisted by her father Pieter van Stompwijck and Maijtge van Stompwijck, her petemoeij (DTB 665/282). She remarried with Pieter Tasman on 14 January 1606, at which time she had been a widow for 9 months. She was again assisted by her father Pieter van Stompwijck (DTB 666/2). On Pieter van Stompwijck, see R 35934. After the death of Pieter Tasman, she married Jan Adriaensz. Roos on 23 August 1612 (DTB 667/18). Jan Adriaensz. Roos was probably the son of Adriaen Cornelisz. Roos and the brother of Cornelis Adriaensz. Roos of R 31021.
