Buyer | Mary d'Arras |
Buyer Family | Arras, Mary d' |
Buyer Notes | On 9 April 1628, Francois de Gouve and Marie d'Arra had their son Jean baptized in the Walloon Church (DTB 130/250). On 18 December 1636, Francoys de Gouve, oudecleercoper, appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared that his six children, ranging in age from Pieter, 15, to the twins Francois and Maria, 2 1/2, whose late mother was Maria Daras, were entitled to 600 f. for their mother's inheritance (WK 5073/789). On 10 June 1637, Francois de Gouve, from Arras, oudecleercoper (dealer in old clothes), widower of Maria Darras, living in the Nes, was betrothed to Eli de Faij, from Rijff Luyck, widow of Jean Beaufour (DTB 445/406). Mary d'Arras, whose husband dealt in used clothing, was most probably an uitdraagster. |

Buyer | Jan de Vos bierschoijer |
Buyer Family | Vos, Jan de (bierbeschoijer) (II ?) |
Buyer Notes | The buyer was a beer distributor or wholesaler (bierbeschoijer). He may be the individual named Jan de Vos who was 24 years old when, on 2 August 1629, he was betrothed to Jacomijntje de Hoeck, 22. He was assisted by his mother Mayke Harenius and his brother Pieter de Vos and she by her aunt Catharina Jans (DTB 434/243). The fact that Pieter de Vos (of R 36426) was also a buyer at Orphan Chamber auctions at about the same time supports the hypothesis that the son, Jan de Vos II, was the buyer of the present lot. The father may possibly be identical with the individual named Jan de Vos who bought three lots at a 1610 auction sale (R 29666), when Jan de Vos II was only five years old. Jan de Vos, who may or may not be identical with the beer distributor Jan de Vos II, lived in de Smack on the Warmoesstraet in 1625 (R 20647). He was said to be out of the country when an inventory of the goods in his possession resting under Davidt Hulst in the house De Smack in the Warmoesstraet, of which the owner was Fensgen Hermans, was taken (INTRO of INVNO 1211). In early 1630, Claes Gerritsz. Spagnaert, 38, and Mathys Aertsz., 28, made a deposition at the request of Jan de Vos, bierbeschooier, the father and guardian of the widow of Captain Steenback, concerning some cargaison of silk that the captain had brought back from Cyprus and Alexandretta (NA 834, Not. J. Bruyningh). On or about 2 November 1635, Lysbet Jans, sick in bed, declared in a deposition that Jan de Vos, bierbeschooier, owed a debt, possibly for house rent (NA 477, fol. 453, Not. Palm Mathijs). |
