BuyerCornelis van der Voort
Buyer FamilyVoort, Cornelis (Pietersz.), van der
Buyer NotesThe buyer, Cornelis van der Voort, was a painter active in Amsterdam from 1592 to 1624. He was born in Antwerp in 1576, the son of Pieter van der Voort (I), from Turnhout, cloth weaver, and of Tanneken van der Venne. He was also the brother of the painter Pieter van der Voort (II) of INVNO 660, of Hans Pietersz. van der Voort (of R 32585) and of Elisabeth van der Voort, who married the painter Paulus Buys II (of R 23234). On 24 October 1598, Cornelis van der Voort Pietersz., 22 years old, having lived for 12 years in the Heytjehoeksteeg, assisted by his mother Tanneken van der Venne, and his brother Hans van der Voort, was married to Truytgen Willems, 19, living in den Ysell, assisted by Evert Jansz., bode (envoy), and Clara Tyssen, her uncle and mother resp. Her father Willem Jansz., bode, had given his consent (Dozy, Obreen, Archief voor de Nederlandsche kunstgeschiedenis vol. 6, p. 54). Truytge Willems was the sister of Giertgen Willems, who married the broker Matheus Anthonisz. of R 28454. In 1606, Cornelis van der Voort bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 1 f. 16 st. (with Adriaen van der Voort) (GAA, 16/19 F 106). For two of the inventories containing paintings that Cornelis van der Voort either owned or caused to be sold, see INVNO 687 of 1614 and INVNO 563 of 1625. For his betrothal to Cornelia Brouwers in 1613, see R 32470. His children from his first marriage with Truijtje Willems were baptized Dieuwer (22 March 1609) and Geertruyd (25 February 1607); from his second marriage, Maria (16 January 1614), Jan (1 March 1615), Annetje (17 May 1616), and Maria (11 June 1617) (Dozy, op. cit., p. 55). For the baptism of Dorytea on 22 January 1623, see R 32470. On 20 June 1625, after the death of Cornelis van der Voort, his brother-in-law Matheus Anthonisz. issued an insinuatie addressed to Cornelia Brouwers, in his capacity as guardian of the children, named by the Orphan Chamber, requesting that she have appraised by disinterested parties (onpartydige personen) all the portraits left by her husband and that these be priced and evaluated in such way that she make no claim on any increase in value (verbetering) that might occur now or in the future (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, pp. 265n-266n of Nachträge).

BuyerAnne Jans
Buyer FamilyJans, Anne (I)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was an uitdraagster who bought works of art and other goods at many other sales. She lived in de 2 Regenbogen bij de Nieuwe Kerck. A sale was held by the Orphan Chamber at her request on 21 March 1611 (Hilde van Wijngaarden, notes to Scriptie). On 21 November 1618, Pieter Lambertsz. Brack, a collector of the excise tax on woolens, had a notary take inventory of the English and other woolens in the house of Jacob Henricksz. Scherbier (probably identical with the buyer of R 20398). Scherbier claimed that he had bought the woolens from the Anne Jans. Scherbier had apparently failed to pay the tax on them. Even though the impostmeester had the woolens sequestered (arrestiert), Scherbier said he would sell them any way (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven 78(1933), p. 312)
