BuyerAbraham de Bye en huysvrou
Buyer FamilyBye (Bie), Abraham de (and wife)
Buyer NotesOn 15 April 1612, Abraham de Bije and Susanna Carels had their daughter Elisabeth baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Alexander de Bije and Elijsabeth van Dael (DTB 5/15). A man named Abraham de Bije, who is unlikely to be identical with the buyer, was buried in the Z.K. on 17 January 1627; 4 f. were paid to the church on his behalf (DTB 1090/8). Another, who may be our buyer, named Abram de Bie, living on the South side of the Poort on the Dam Sluijs, paid a tax of 40 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 264vo, p. 61). The latter may be identical with Abraham de Bye, who, together with his wife Helena Sijmons, had his son Abraham baptized in the O.K. on 12 January 1642, in the presence of Flips Fontensz. (II), of R 20086) and of Helena Ratteloo (cited in the NOTES to R 28792) (DTB 7/313). Two daughters of Abraham de Bie and, perhaps, of Susanna Carels, named Suzanna and Cornelia, married sons of Philippe de la Fontaine I of R 20084: Suzanna, born about 1617, to Philippe II (of INVNO 1253), on 2 June 1637 (betrothal), and Cornelia to Jan de la Fontaine. After Cornelia died, leaving Jan de la Fontaine with 8 sons, he remarried with Maria Kuysten, widow of Justinus van der Meer. Maria Kuysten was the sister of Elisabeth Kuysten, who married Hendrick Aertsz. Kemp (probably of R 25363) (Nederlandsche Leeuw 52(1934), col. 246 and 56(1938), col. 142). A sister of Abraham de Bie (which?), named Sara, was married to the famous silversmith Johannes Lutma. They were said to be, respectively, the uncle and aunt of the painter Cornelis de Bie (1622-1664) (Bredius, Künstler-inventare p.94). It is not clear whether this Abraham de Bie was the same as our buyer or, for that matter, as the man married to Susanna Carels, who baptized a daughter named Elisabeth in 1612.

BuyerHendrick Kemp
Buyer FamilyKemp, Hendrick (Barentsz. ?)
Buyer NotesThe buyer is probably Hendrick Barentsz. Kemp, who, together with Willem Anthonijsz. Kemp, organized the present sale. On 24 January 1619, Hendrick Barentsz., 19 (possibly 39), wine distributor, from 's Hertogenbosch, was betrothed to Catharina Juliaens (DTB 423/142). In 1631, he paid a tax of 60 f., at which time he lived on the Warmoesstraet. See also the NOTES to R 886 of Montias1. He may also be identical with Hendrick Barentsz., cooper, in the house of Dirck Bontius, spices merchant, who was involved in a dispute over the delivery of some wine (NA 412A, fol. 212, Not. Jacob and Nicolas Jacobsz.) Dirck Bontius lived near the St. Nicolaesbrugge (NA 772, act of 1 October 1635). According to a deposition dated 30 August 1635, Hendrick Barentsz., wine distributor (wijnverlater) was 36 when he was asked, along with Dirck Haeck, likewise wine distributor, by Hendrick Dircksz. Schoneman, salt merchant, to make a deposition regarding some wine that Schoneman had bought from Hugo Bloemaert, wine merchant on the Dam (NA 597, fol. 72, Not. Lamberti). The age given to Hendrick Barentsz. would seem to correspond to that given at the time of his betrothal cited above (if it has been correctly read). On 25 May 1635, Adriaen Spierincx, boremaecker (probably a borer of wells), claimed that Hendrick Kemp, wine dealer living in Zwolle, owed him 337 f. (NA 843, Not. Hoogeboom). Another individual named Hendrick Barentsz., who was a kanner, was betrothed to Aeltge Martens de Grave (illiterate) on 13 November 1604, at which time he was said to be 26 years old and living on the N.Z. Achterburchwal (DTB 411/352). He appeared in a deposition dated 26 October 1637 (NA 598, fol. 406, Not. Lamberti).

BuyerHans Pietersz. in de Waterhont
Buyer FamilyPietersz., Hans (Wijbrantsz.)
Buyer NotesOn 10 July 1617 a merchant from Hamburg declared that he had sold to (among others) Hans Pietersz. Wybrants living in the Waterhondt 17 bolts of grofgreynen at 8 gulden a piece. He had told the son of Hans Pietersz. (unnamed) that he (the seller) must not be deprived of his courtagie (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven, R.G.P. 78(1933), p. 244). The (bonten) Waterhont in the Warmoesstraet, belonged to the merchant Johannes Wijbrantsz., son of Hans Pietersz. Wijbrantsz. (de oude ?), in 1622 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 419). He had bought half the house from Anthony van Davelaer (of INVNO 1030) on 30 April 1617 and half from Jacob Evertsz. (probably of R 32975) on 19 June 1617 (Kam, Waar was dat huis in de Warmoesstraat?, 1968 37/22, p. 472). In 1631, Hans Pieter Wijbrantsz. de jonge, living in the Warmoesstraet, paid a tax of 100 f. (Kohier, fol. 209vo, p. 48). The buyer may be either the father or the son (the latter is more probable).
