Buyer FamilyBurchertsz., Otto
Buyer NotesThe buyer was the father of the late owner of the goods sold, Burchert Otten. Like his son, he was a chamois leather tanner. By a resolution of the burgomasters of 15 December 1620, Otto Burchertsz., Hetto Hermansz., Hendrick de Raet, and Jeuriaen Valckenburch, all zeemtouwers (tanners of chamois leather), were authorized to oversee the workers working in the zeemleerenmolens on the Wal in the Elanstraet (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P.78(1933), p. 385). Hendrick de Raet was also a leather dealer. He died before 14 January 1628 when his widow sold a house on the East side of the Keizersgracht to Francois Woutersz., merchant, for 7,000 f. She and the heirs of Hendrick de Raet I sold another house on the Elantstraet (where many tanners lived) to Hendrick de Raet II for 1610 f. (WK 5072/1192). Jeuriaen Valckenburgh was a buyer at the present sale and was presumably also a chamois leather tanner. For his death inventory, see INVNO 477 and the INTRO to R 455 of Montias1. Jeuriaen Valckenburgh was a buyer at the auction sale of leather on 15 April 1626 (WK 5073/972). On 10 November 1602, Otto Borchers, seemtouwer, and Jutgen Hermans, had their son Herman baptized in the O.K. (DTB 4/48). On 17 August 1622, Otto Burgertsz. appeared before the Orphan Chamber and declared himself guarantor, along with Albert Burgertsz. (who was presumably his brother), for the sum of 1,300 f. promised by Burger Otten to his son Lodewijck, 11 years old, to which he was entitled for the inheritance from his late mother Styntgen Lodewycx (WK 5073/789).
