history |
Laura Abigail Clubb was an art collector, teacher and philanthropist. After oil was discovered on her and her husband’s (I. M. (Ike) Clubb) land in 1919, Mrs. Clubb traveled to Europe and began collecting art work. The Clubb's displayed their collection in their hotel, The Clubb Hotel, and home in Kaw City, OK (the collection was open to the public). The collection included, among others, work by Gainsborough, Kirchbach, Bouguereau, Thomas Moran, Corot, Schiavoni, William Chase, and Bonheur. Clubb gave her art collection to the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, in 1947. |
