Charles Mather Ffoulke was a wool manufacturer, collector, art critic and tapestry authority. Ffoulke, 1889, purchased the entire tapestry collection of the Barberini family in Rome. The collection included 135 antique tapestries. In 1907, Ffoulke assisted Percy W French and Mitchell Samuels purchase Sypher & Company (later French & Company). Ffoulke was a member of the Metropolitan, Country and Chevy-Chase Clubs of Washington DC, and the Geographical and Historical Societies of Washington, DC, the National Arts club of New York (resigned member of the Union League Club), and several other societies in USA and Europe. |
