history Irma Grabhorn-Engel was the third wife of Edwin E. Grabhorn. After she married Grabhorn in 1965 she collected art until he died in 1968, when she became the custodian of the Grabhorn Japanese print collection.

Irma immigrated to the United states in 1938 with her first husband, Samuel Engel d. 1960, an ophthalmologist and book collector who taught at the School of Medicine at Stanford University.
