Anthony Joseph Drexel was a collector, American financier, banker (Drexel & Company), partner of J.P. Morgan (Drexel, Morgan and Co.) and founder of Drexel University in Philadelphia. Drexel collected decorative and fine arts both privately and for Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry (Drexel University’s original name). Objects from Drexel's personal collection were willed to the Institute after his death in 1893. |
