Commentary | Jacob Cornelisz. van Campen (1598-1668) was the natural, legitimized son of the merchant Cornelis van Campen (1564-1636) and of Sijtgen Gerrits. He married Geertruid van Delft (1603-1676) at an unknown date. The architect Jacob van Campen was his half brother, procreated by Cornelis van Campen and Catharina Queeckels (1578-1632). From the INTRO it emerges that the merchant Jacob Cornelisz. van Campen had a son named Gysbrecht and that the latter had children named Cornelis, Willem, Anna, and Jacobus, who were still of minor age or unmarried at the time of Geertruid's death. On the Van Campen genealogy, see Jacob van Campen, Het klassieke ideaal in de Gouden Eeuw, Exh. Catalogue, Royal Palace, Amsterdam, 1995, pp.24-5). |
