Commentary | On 30 April 1611, Wouter van Lennip (signs Lennep), wijnverlater (wine distributor), 23, living on the Warmoesstraet, was betrothed to Agneetien Barents, 21, assisted by her sister Jannetje Jans (DTB 415/68 and Elias, Vroedschap, p. 966). On 6 November 1630, Henri Tivart (de jonge), from Amsterdam, 29, assisted by Jan Tivart de oude (his father), sugar refiner, was betrothed to Geertruyt van Lennip, 16, assisted by her father Wouter van Lennip (DTB 436/209). Jan Tivart de oude (of R 20955) was an important art dealer, as well as a sugar refiner, who frequently bought at Orphan Chamber. Wouter van Lennip only bought one lot (in 1621, for 44 f.) at one of these sales (R 20505), which was not included in the present transfer. On a sale of paintings by Hendrick Thivaert (probably II), which took place in 1650, see INVNO 524. Steven Jansz. Schut was collector of the tax on wine according to a notarial act of 7 January 1631 (NA 910, Not. Pieter Eyloff). The debt that Van Lennip secured with his possessions was probably connected with unpaid taxes on wine. On 1 March 1634, Steven Jansz. Schudt, 23, former collector of the taxes on wine and brandy, made a deposition (NA 942, Not. Daniel Bredans). | |
