Commentary | Lambert Schouten, who witnessed the present inventory, may have been a former burgomaster of Weesp. It was very probably his daughter, Heyltje (Hillegond) Lamberts Schouten who married Gilbert de Flines on 12 April 1638 (see the TEXT to R 347 of INVNO 446). On 7 February 1635, Gijsbert Lambertsz. Schouten, who was probably Heyltje's brother, signed a contract with the spices dealer Jan Aertsz. van der Heede to form a company to trade in spices for 8 years. The trading activity would take place in a house op het Water, on the corner of the Zoutsteeg (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P., 144(1974),p. 81.) The Garst family (the members of which are cited in the INTRO) has not been identified, except for Jan or Johannes Garst who was said to be a bookbinder in 1666 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven 144(1974), p. 747). | |
