Commentary | Many members of the Kan family were buyers at auction. Jacob Pietersz. may have been the father of Jan Jacobsz. Kan of R 27297. Jacob Kan was Roman Catholic, as were the other members of the Kan family. His allegiance to the R.C. faith is confirmed by the crucifix above the bedstead. Among the debtors owing money to the estate: Sieuwaerts schilder (perhaps of R 29248 of Montias2) and Hans Rombouts (probably of R 30032 of Montias2). In his death inventory, Sijmen Sijmenss of INVNO 146 held an act of indemnity passed by the creditors of Jacob Pietersz. Can nopende de bevrydinge van 't huijs de twee lierckens, which may have belonged to Jacob Pietersz. Can. It is uncertain whether Jacob Pietersen, kistemacker (coffin maker, joiner), married to Griet Jans, who had a daughter named Baefgen baptized in the O.K. on 18 March 1601 (DTB 3/271) is identical with Jacob Pietersz.
