CommentaryOn 20 April 1611, Barent van Hoorn Janssoon, 25, living on the Nieuwe Dijck, assisted by Jan van Hoorn and Giert Jacobs de Rijk, his parents, was betrothed to Pietertge Pieters Kalven, 17, living op 't Water, assisted by her uncle Geraert (?) Claesz. Kalf (DTB 415/53). Jan Jansz. van Hoorn (1561-1602) (de oude), of R 27381, married Marij Egberts Vinck on 29 April 1582 and, after her death, Giertgen Jacobs de Rijck on 23 June 1602. Besides Barent Jansz., they had a son named Jan van Hoorn de jonge (1617-1645) of R 32160. In 1606, Barent van Hooren, from Hamburg, living in het swarte Peert bought lots in the Haarlem lottery for 3 f. 12 st. (GAA, 26/45 F 184). In 1620, Barend van Hoorn built two houses on the Keisersgracht (no. 211 and no. 213). The latter was named Het geloof (E. van Houten, Grachten, p. 49). It was apparently his son, Cornelis Barentsz. van Hoorn, schuytvoerder (barge pilot) who issued an aldermen's obligation (schepenkennis) for the sum of 520 f., which was transferred and ceded by Seger Pietersz., goldsmith (of R 32330 of Montias2) on 30 May 1634 to the heirs of the late Barent Cornelisz. van Hoorn (II) (NA 596, fol. 62, Not. Lamberti). Another Barent Janss van Hoorn (III), painter, widower of Marretie Jacobs Boon, living in the Tuynstraet, was betrothed on 23 December 1637 to Grietie Hendricks from Amsterdam, 23, assisted by her mother Neel Jans, living on the Noordermarkt. The bridegroom signed Baerent Jansse Muller (Obreen, Archief voor Nederlandsche kunstgeschiedenis 5(1882-1883), p. 14). Finally, Barend van Hoorn (IV) was a wine dealer whose insolvent inventory was drawn up on 22 July 1672 (DBK 5072/600, fol. 111 and foll.)
