Commentary | Arnold de Vlaming van Oudtshoorn, born in Beverwijk about 1618, drowned at sea on his return from the East Indies on a voyage in which he was serving the V.O.C. on 11 February 1662. He was governor of Amboina in 1650. He married Maria Ruttens, daughter of the jeweler Hans Ruttens and of Clara Elekaert, in Batavia in May 1641. She was born in Amsterdam in 1605 and, at the time of her marriage with Vlaming van Oudtshoorn, was the widow of Pieter Lodewijksz. Eyloff, notary. After the death of Maria Ruttens, he remarried with Barbara Pars, born in Batavia, in November 1650. After the death of his second wife, he remarried with Anna Bon, born in Rotterdam. She drowned with him in 1662 (Elias, Vroedschap van Amsterdam, p. 229). For the inventory of Clara Elicaerts (or Elikaarts), the mother of Maria Ruttens, see Inventory 121. | |
